Welcome oldman, trust me when I say you will not be the only old guy out on the field. I am in South Carolina so I do not know alot of places up there for you to play...but Bear claw and MPP events are a muct. I have not missed one in 2 years now and do not plan to miss any if I can help it.
If you are planning on doing a scenario you must have lots of items...somewhere on here is a thread where we discuss all of it, can someone find the link and post it for our new friend?
You need to talk to some fellwo Tenn players about locals to play, I know Havokrooster is in Knoxville and can help you out. There are tons of guys and gals form all around you and teams that you should see in action....maybe even possibly join. Rebel Force Pirates are a superb team who play hard, party hard, and have fun on and off the field. You will not go wrong by running with them at a game.
I am 46 and now just hitting my peak for pb.....most here know my antics but will not admit they know me, wonder why???? lol
Have fun playing and I hope we have a new pbjunkie friend for a long time, this is the greatest forum around and full of honorable players who will help you in any way possible.

    Hey, welcome to the sport!

I know that you're close to Bearclaw in Fayetteville, TN, which is an amazing field and one of the most popular scenario fields out there when you get ready for the BIG games. I know in Canton, GA, is my home field, Nitro Paintball, which is very new player friendly, and you'll learn a lot about the game after a few trips. Make sure with your guns you have some good 20oz CO2 bottles, or prefferably, Compressed Air tanks, which is where most of the sport is headed as far as fuel for the gun. Another good idea is investing in basic pod packs and pods for carrying extra paint. The Tippmann 98 is a great starting gun for newer players because it offers a great jumping off point for other types of guns, and endless customization, which allows you to explore what kind of player you want to be, and what equipment you want to use. Woodsball is 90% of all paintball players, maybe more, so this is the most popular type of paintball played, and is friendly to players of all skill levels.

Most of what I could tell you is much more easily learned on the field, but as far as equipment goes, that's enough to get you started. Also, the game is MUCH more fun when you find a team to play with, and there are MANY that are based around the GA/TN/SC area. Many on this forum as well.

Strike true, and strike with precision

how many pods should a person carry? we dont want to run out of ammo in the middle of a game. how long does the game last? is there any need for other equipment? ( we have face mask and gloves) also i dont want to spend a fortune on alot of unecessary stuff. just trying to gather all of the basic equipment. (dont know if this will be a big hit with my wife and daughter yet) but i will enjoy getting my tail kicked. i have seen bear claw on the web and it looks cool but the website said you need a group to play. i dont want to make a trip up there to find out we cant play. what is woodsball? sorry for all of the goofy questions but i am trying to find out everything that i need to know. Thanks fo all the help so far see yall soon.

Woodsball is a game that is mainly played in the woods. Bunkers are usually made of wood or sandbags. These games usually last 10 to 15 minutes depending on where you play. You can get really sneaky in these games with a good set of camo on.

Speedball (sometimes called X-ball) is a game that is played on a small field with aired up bunkers. These games usually last 5 minutes. Getting a good "angle" to fire from is a great idea in these games.

Hyperball is a game that is played on a small field with bunkers made of plastic pallets and industrial tubing. These games also usually last 5 minutes.

As far as a good number of pods to carry, I carried four 140 round pods starting out. Depending on your playing style, you could cut down a bit, but it was always nice to have more than I ever needed, just in case.

As far as things to bring to the field, I would always bring my allen key set when chronoing your marker (setting up how fast it shoots), a small towel and a spray bottle with water (to wipe off your mask if shot there), and water for hydration.

Don't worry about asking goofy questions. We all were new once. You never learn if you don't ask. If you find you a good local field, some of the more experienced players could/should help you out. Hell, some of the guys on my team even let new players use some of our equipment just to see what else is out there before making a huge investment. Hope this helps you out a bit...

    I agree with sarcasm...on everything
    there is NO stupid question
Ill add I bring some rags and paper towels to clean stuff as required with the water (dont use soap or chemicals) on your markers masks and air/co2 tanks
and wipe everybody of before we get in the car
and I usually pack a lunch...subway or somethin
keep in mind some of the best paintball players out there ...are female

Since your in Grundy Co. and that's near Chattanooga there's a huge paintball store located there... It has both indoor (x-ball style) and outdoor (scenario/woodsball style) fields and a great place to shop and the staff are very helpful... When ever I'm down around Chattanooga I try and stop by there and pick out a few odds and ends...

The name of the Store/Field is Insane Paintball and can be found at this link : Insane Paintball

Here's also a overhead view of Insane Paintball both Store and Fields

    Hope that helps you out...

If you call Bearclaw on a Saturday or Sunday morning around 9ish someone can tell you if we have a group you can play with. If you have any questions please feel free to call.
