Thumbs down I got to shoot an Angel G7 Fly

I posted this over on AOG and thought a few people might be interested over here, and since then, I now own one too.

Yup, I still have it in my possession . Courtesy of Ken Crane at www.performanceangel.com that is. He is letting me borrow his G7 Fly for a week to test out while he is away at San Diego. I am like a kid at Christmas.

I was expecting to be impressed with it after seeing the official WDP pics but those pics really do not do it justice. Needless to say, it is a thing of beauty. You really have to hold it and see in person to believe it.

The very first thing I noticed was that the anodizing is the same shade and appears to the same type and quality as the current G7. Looks freaking great , slick and shiny.

After I composed myself, I picked it up and it is a lot lighter than the G7. Right away you can feel the difference.

Lucky for me, I haven't sold my G7 yet (will be up for sale this week) so I can compare a 90 frame G7 versus the 45 frame G7 Fly that Ken is letting me borrow.

I shot it at Ken's this afternoon hooked up to his air compressor. The trigger is a lot different than the G7. It fells completely different. It has only one vernier wheel and two screws (not counting the toe adjustment screw).

I am going to get a fill tomorrow and really let this baby rip. Unfortunately, I have to give it back next week  but he tells me that he will have more the following week (week of 9/26) that will be for sale and ready to ship.

Enough of that stuff. Here are the pics!

Brand new software too!

Nope, that is the standard G7 Fly. It is an all around beauty in every way. Let me dig out my thoughts on after I tried it out. The new Fly trigger is simply amazing.

Thumbs down

From 9/11/05:

Well, I fired the G7 Fly up today....WOW! Freaking rips just like the G7. To me, it does sound a little different. I was shooting it off my back deck (luckily I have a pretty secluded lot) and my wife even came out and said "Wow, that is pretty quiet, I could barely hear it in the house".

Got some more specs on the new G7 Fly trigger. It is actually called the "Magnetic Adjustable Force Trigger" in the manual addendum that I have.

Here ya go:

Magnetic adjustable force trigger:
ADDENDUM TO PAGE 21 - REPLACES VERNIER TRIGGER ADJUSTMENT

The trigger system has four adjustable point, front travel, backstop, activation point, and magnetic return strength control.

The return strength is controlled through the foremost set screw located on the under side of the trigger, turning the set screw counter clockwise will decrease the return force of the trigger making it lighter to operate, turning this set screw clock wise will increase the strength of the return force of the trigger.

The front travel adjustment is done via the rear most of the set screws located underneath the trigger, turning the screw clockwise will reduce the amount of front travel; turning the screw counter clockwise will increase the amount of front travel.

The back adjustment is done via the single adjustment wheel, turning the wheel clockwise moves the position of the back stop further back, moving the wheel in a counter clockwise motion will move the position of the back stop forward.

And of course it also has the standard toe adjustment screw.

By the way - Can anyone guess where they got the brilliant idea for the new trigger adjustments?

The other feature the new software has is the Mechanical de-Bounce (MdB) filtering. This is an extra level of electronic filtering applied to the trigger software in addition to the trigger offset feature to allow the user to filter out any unwanted bounce from their trigger caused by the mechanical effects.

There are settings for MdB. 1 through 20, with 1 offering the lowest level of bounce filtering and 20 offering the highest valve of filtering.

From the way Ken described the MdB to was that the trigger can be set to the very closest it can be without bouncing. You can bring it right to the edge to get the most out of the trigger and still be "legal".
