Don't say anything to the wife and we can stow you away in Grendel's truck. She'll never know you are gone.....Of course Sunday night might be interesting at the ole homestead.

no night..
why no night for bakara?
good question. At super 64 we had some awesome night play - the best Ive seen. We ran till just after midnight - around 50 players on the field at most at any time. What troubled me a bit was a few of the instances where a gang of electro's would open up on a single sniper hiding behind something too small and the hail of paint would be tremendous. Being dark - its hard to see if a player is hit With so many markers firing, no one can hear him call hit or signal he is hit Without a ref right on top of the action, some one could get pretty torn up Half of the players ignored the 6bps night play request. A few ignored the 250fps request And you should have seen the marks on Steve Chace - (PBC's head red.) There is no way the shooter was shooting 250fps (or even 280 for that matter) Night play requires a double effort by the players to turn there stuff back, and down - and we just didnt get the cooperation from enough players at Super 64 for me for feel comfortable doing it so soon. Im sure I can work out the details for future games, but not for Bakara. Here it is in a nut shell - Electronic markers and night play dont mix well. Im all ears for suggestions for future games to this problem.

so when i got back the night game was in full swing so i turned my velocity a 1/4 turn and just went out there, and a 98c aint gonna shoot that many balls so i wasnt worried bout overshot i cant wait for another TT night game holding the tower against ballbusters was the best "chevy" (drac pulls a super sick combat roll behind some tires) and it WAS ON and to the gentleman who caught the full blast from a flatline when he tried to rush the stairs much respect Bear- dont go down the stairs ![]() |

As someone who has played several scenario games with night play, here's my perspective. I'm not going to be at Bakara (sorry, GZ), but I've been a regular at TT scenarios in the past few years. While the idea of night play is appealing, in practice I find it has all sorts of warts and pimples. One of the biggest being the change in attitude of players from day to night. It goes from having respect for the rules, to a facsimile of the "WHERE'S THE LAW??!!" attitude of Burt Reynolds character in Deliverance. That may sound a bit cynical, but when I've played at night, it is 1 in 2 who will not call themselves out when hit, where as in the day, it's maybe 1 in 10 (probably lower than that). And even when there are refs around (not just one, but several) people STILL play through hits. For example, a few scenarios back I was playing at night, defending the South Base. I had a flash light at the time and we had some other lights around the base. The base was attacked from the north and east, and I zeroed in on a guy crawling toward the base, maybe 40 feet away, and marked him with my flashlight. I and four other guys shot at the guy and I could clearly see two marks on him and his equipment with my flashlight. Did he call himself out? Nope. Instead he fired back. In the next two minutes, we must have put 500 paintballs in his direction. AND STILL he didn't call himself out. In the course of this, I was hit on my flashlight hand. I went over and got a ref and pointed out the guy. He was called out, but that was it. It would be an understatement to say I was livid. That player should have been thrown out of night play at least, and probably tossed from the remainder of the game. That was probably one of the worst-case examples of what I've seen, but I've seen plenty other minor unpunished infractions at night. Not because of neglect on the refs part, but simply because night play is generally hard to police. And the amount of moon light doesn't seem to make much difference. Yes, there are people with electros who bonus ball with impunity at night, but I know of people using fast mechanicals (like an RT AutoMag) who do the same. Again, that relates more to attitude than the marker in my opinion. Anyway, here are my suggestions: These days, tons of people have electros but not a second mechanical/pump marker, for various reasons. So I'm not sure a ban is the way to go. However, an electro can really only shoot as fast as it's fed. So I'd say have a rule for night play that basically says you can have an electronic hopper or an electronic gun, but not both (and yes, I'd classify the Q-Loader as being electronic, simply because of its feed rate). This rule should be easier to enforce than the FPS cap. A couple companies make glow-in-the-dark paint. Use it! I know the paint has to be primed with UV light in order to glow, and not everyone can or wants to go out and get a hopper with UV LEDs, so I'd suggest selling the paint by the bag, and put it under UV light back at the trailer. I know this wouldn't completely stop playing through breaks, but I think it would keep most players honest. You really need as many refs as possible at night. More than you need during the day. I don't know how to get more refs out there, I just know you need a ton of them. Overall, you need more organization and stricter enforcement of rules at night. If you work significant night play into a scenario, it should receive a large chunk of the planning time. Well, that's it for now. Don't know how feasible all my suggestions are, but I think they would move night play in the right direction. |
