Barrel suggestions for a Sniper II

For over a decade my 16" AA has served me beyond well for my trustry rustry Sniper II, but these colder months tend to make the balls roll out the barrel. At my last few scenarios I was forces to chose back and forth between a little surgical tape in the end (which produced eratic results) and borrowing Grendle's freak. aluminum back, aluminum inserts, 14"AA front.

And not to slam my bro, but I wernt impressed. I did like how the freak and bore match make the marker much more "crisp" to shoot, but the accuracy wasnt there, even with marbilizer. Field paint is just crap to shoot.

side note : Is it me, or are the paint manufacturers making the paint smaller to keep life easier on the electro guns? (or is it just the cold?)

1) So now im thinking about springing for some Worr Perfection and Zap chronic to fit my oldschool AA barrel a bit better

2) Springing for a black aluminum freak back, stainless bore kit and a 16" black AA front - which would be nice to swap back and forth w/ my 94 evo and just playing the field paint.

3) asking you guys.

4) investigating the CP 2 piece and dye ultralight stuff buzzing on this site.

Ive tried boomsticks on limited variety of paint, teardrops, J&J chromes, and all fell way short over the performance of my old AAs.

Thoughts? suggestions? -- Thanks guys,

ive been looking into this also. Ive found a newer HIGH end barrel kit. Hammer Head paintball. www.hammerheadpaintball.com they make a barrel designed for the scenario player. Check these out, they may be expensive, but looks to be worth it.

This looks a lot like an Armson barrel internally, if the perform like the Armson or better the performance should be good, but damn Armson barrels are noisey. The 5 piece set is $225 a little steep for me.

I have pretty good luck with my freaks, even considering Thumpers misadventures :p . I really think Thumpers problems was more severly screwed up paint. Inserts only compensate for diameter differences but can not fix the "egg effect", sever dimples, etc.

I am interested in trying out the St!ff! Switch barrel kit everything I've heard is good about this barrel and it is supposed to be very quiet.

im not trying to preach hammerhead or anything of the sort, but just read this and thought it was interesting. Its got both back and front holes in the front, so that most of the sound is diverted away from the "huntee" and to the hunter. Its very inovative and does work. My mom is a sound tech. almost and did somthing like this. Barely audibule.

I've always had good results with my freak on my 98C, and now that I've got a cocker type gun I just had to buy a new back not a whole new barrel kit. I've never tried the SS inserts but that should be a nice upgrade. If you ever get a new gun you don't have to buy a whole new kit.

Well, my personal choice would be an old boomstick set with all the sizes, but it sounds like you are biased from past experience. After seeing the original stiffi's I think Grendel's recommendation would be a good choice. I have also heard great things about the longbow set.

No "Stimpy" does not and that would take care of the problem. The Evo he has has a wire style but this gun does not get used often.

stainless inserts?

Based on some of the old lapco stainless stuff I remember (perhaps from Bulldogs Cocker), I would think the stainless inserts for the freak would have less drag than the aluminum. A little periodic teflon treatment to fill any pits to keep it smooth and low drag.

theories?

Stainless can be made with a lower friction coefficient and it is tougher than the aluminum inserts. Down sides is more costly. Lapco still makes some great stainless barrels but they are heavy as hell. My Autospirit for my mag is an awsome barrel but weighs more than my gun :(
