The new iPhone
Posted 07-09-2008 at 08:57 AM by Junkie
Well I'm headed out to finally get a new phone. My current phone is through sprint and they're service has turned to shit in a hand basket so I'm going with a new device and a new carrier.
I'm not real sure which plan to get. I spend a lot of time on the phone but I'm not sure if it warrants an unlimited 100+ a month cell phone bill.
The other options are 450 minutes for $70 all the way up to 1350 minutes for $109 or unlimited everything for $130.
Thoughts?

Id look over the last 4 months phone bills and see where the minutes average. After you see what your limit is, ask your phone provider what the charges are for going over. Also see if your new phone can have some type of indicating message when you reach that limit. Technology can easily do that, but doesn't help the phone plans any, so they may not offer it. Wonder if there is a software mod online that can be added to phones for that feature?

Thanks for the update.. My big problem is my current phone is through work and I have no idea what the average minutes used is. I do know work just gets a big pool of minutes and we all use from it.
The good news is I can adjust the packages after purchasing to suite my needs. There is supposed to be a lot of 3rd party development for the new 2.0 OS so maybe there will be something like what you mentioned. |

So the att.com website indicates to go to the store before hand to get pre-approved thereby decreasing the headache you have on Friday.
I drive 20 miles round trip and the lady tells me there's nothing we can do for you right now. Come back on Friday. While I was talking to her 4 other people walked in asking the same thing. I then ask the rep how much they have been asked about the new iphone.. She said get in line early tomorrow... |

Charleston area is 3G and tv ready, too. I called the local att store up here and they sent me a credit ap and said to bring it back later today to set up the account as not to wait tomorrow....
still not sure if the Iphone or the new touch blackberry (out in Sept) is the way to go. actually there are 3 new berrys out this fall. the Thunder and the Bold. I'v e seen the bold in person..the screen clarity is about 4x clearer than anything out there. New oled technology) the thunder is the touch version...I'm a berry fan. any one have facts that could swing me over? |

Well I waited 3 hours in line and another 2 trying to get my phone activated at the at&t counter. After all the frustration I must admit the phone is pretty nice.
I used the GPS and it actually shows where you are at all times. I'm currently uploading all my tunes and such and will post more information as I come across it.. |

Junkie - I was in line next to you buying one for my boss's wife. It was nice chatting with you. Glad you like the phone. I haven't heard any complaints yet so I guess things are good on our side as well. It did take me an hour to activate it once I left the store since iTunes kept crashing. Maybe we'll run into each again on the field in the future.

Glad you could make it. I'm really digging this new phone however I'm finding it takes a long time to configure it the way you want. Here I am scrambling to get pictures of all my contacts since it will display a photo of the incoming call. Notice I'm not to gadget savvy as of yet...
Today's cool feature is the FREE boxoffice application. This app (configured for my zip code) displays the rottentomatoes.com movie ratings and the local theater times for all the movies within whatever radius you choose. I recommend it.. |

if you take all of your contacts from your old sim card and insert it in to the iphone, you can upload them instantly.
What other cool aps have you found? I'm looking for yahoo IM. not sure if it will work. G |
