I'm not sure what Old Testament quote you are refering to, but you appear to be making a faulty arugument--& I appologize in advance if I'm wrong about your argument, but this is what it reminded me of:
Many people (protestants) think the only truly important part of the Bible is the New Testament. This is flat out wrong. For example, the Ten Comandments are still valid--but it doesn't stop there.
Only the things in the Old Testement that were replaced by something else/ done away with in the New Testement are things that no longer need heeding to. I wouldn't say "irrelevant" because even those things in the Old Testement that have been done away with aren't irrelevant, because they give us insight to the mind of God and history, if nothing else.
What was done away with? Animal scacrfice for sins, severe eating restrictions, lack of access to worship area of temple (what we call church) and prob. some other things I'm forgeting. But the teachings of the Old Testement in general (everything not done away with by Christ) was not set at nought. In fact, the Old Testemant is quoted very often in the New Testement (by Christ, Paul, and others).
A note to those with doubts about what happened in the past: 100 or 200 years from now, people will read about events taking place right now. But will they believe what they read? Will they want proof of everything recorded & not believe if it's not provided? I think that's exactly what will happen with some people, but that won't change what the truth is.
