I thought about this some more since you posted it was HPA.
Several things can make a HPA cannon explode like that as well. 1. Reg failure - Doubt Full 2. Brittle PVC - How cold was it outside? Did this kid keep his gun in his car over night? pvc gets very brittle below 65 Degrees. If it was left in a car outside over night.. BOOM there goes your answer. *btw i would strongly suggest for field owners if the temp is <60 Degrees NO PVC! 3. The pipe may have been sch80. was it DWV? or ABS? it might not have been pressure rated pipe, and or pressure rated fittings. Did this guy take the remenants if you guys can take some up and close pictures of it i might be able to tell you what happened... |

If it was HPA, Regulated with a pop off valve, more then one thing had to fail. You would have to have the reg stick and the blow off valve not function. Your running dual regs, the HPA reg then the low pressure reg on the cannon its self. Anyway, bad situation for sure. Hate to hear of the injurys. You just never know. Cannons can be dangerous. I say PVC should never be used for air chambers what so ever. No matter what you do, there is a chance of catascrophic failure. |

i have made a home made law "a.k.a the paint ball shotgun" but only the barrel is pvc. i used metal piping for the compression chamber. and it does have a psi gage. i'll add pix after the brake.
I did some research before making this expensive creation. and did my homework. I'm sorry to hear about your finger and your son. altho I dont use my "law" on the paintball range due to its size and weight and for the saftey factor I also dont condone people going out and trying to make some frankenstein paintball gun or what ever. this just goes to show you what can happen when you dont take safty first and when you dont do your homework. agin i'm sorry to hear about what happened. that sucks alot. hope you had a good christmas at least and are going to have a happy new year in about an hour and a half best wishes -7- __________________________________________brake___ _____________________________________________ the pictures are crappy but you get the jest ![]() ![]() ![]() agin.... dont try this at home! and if you do dont use it on the pball range! you can't crono it and you can really hurt someone if all goes south! or kill yourself or someone else. this was just a fun project that I did with some friends. we dont use this on the range nor do we soot it at people! -------------------------------------------------- WIPING is for your butt not for the p-ball field ![]() http://www.palmettopaintball.com ___________________________________ http://se7en.theqcp.org ___________________________________ http://www.meebo.com |

None, what so ever. Even if you use a pressure rated metal pressure chamber like an extinguisher bodies, if it over pressurizes it can still blow apart at the valve.
The only ones that in my opinion are totally safe are the 12 gram, brass ball valve launcher. No chance of over pressurization or failure. You can always do like D-Day and go marker based, but the Tankers seem to not like that ideal in the least. I actually like it better, but that is just me. |

Would you recommend one of the JCS LAWs? if not do u know of another company that makes decient ones? I read this thread yesterday and since have put a stop to my team designing and building a LAW (my lil sis is the one who will be running it on the field and the thought of something like this happening to her wasnt pleasant) I decided instead to get one of our sponsors to purchase one for us. To the field owner involved in this accident, I hope your recovery is a quick and whole one and that your son overcomes this. you have the prayers of me and my mooks Team Tetanus jihad is for fags ~ Nix |
