What exactly is wrong with your internals? If you are worried just because you fired it without the jam nut, first try reinstalling everything with the jam nut in place before getting too worked up. Then if you find something wrong describe the symptoms to us and we should be able to help you out. Heck, I had a Sniper II that was the greatest most consistent gun I ever owned and it didn't have a valve spring. I replaced the valve spring once I discovered the problem, and it hasn't been near as consistent since....And of course I can't get the magic to work again....Dang it.

doesnt the hammer hit the valve stem and then the jam nut to prevent crushing the valve body? I would think the set screw and hammer will trash the valve body w/o the jam nut in place.

ps: deepfreeze and cozie are the cocker techs in this house...

Unfortunately he lives up there by you, so he can't come see me. I don't think he is going to see Jami...this sounds like something I would have to look at...but do what Jami says. Try reinstalling it...do you have an autococker valve tool, or are u just trying to use an allen wrench...? If so that could be a problem..

I haven't been able to get it to work like that since. It must have had just the right amount of gook and grime to hold everything in place, then just the right amount of pressure to let everything move perfectly. I have since installed springs and actually cleaned it up. It works great, but I haven't been able to get the +/- 1 or 2 consistency I used to have with it. I am now +/- 5, so there is nothing wrong with the current set up.
