STO Cocker - jam nut problems..
I dont know how I get myself into these things, and im sure this will sound familiar to some - so here goes.
Ive got a STO cocker in my shop, and it appears the inner body threads where the jam nut goes are cross threaded preventing the jam nut from screwing in beyond the first thread or two. I dont know how they got that way. My first attempt was to carefully allign the stainless jame nut and try and force it in w/ around 20-30 lbs of torque - but this produced only 15 degrees of additional threading and a puzzled look on my mugg. Now im thinking a "finnish" tap may be needed to retap the threads. Anyone out there have experience w/ this? Its a pretty nice body - and would be a shame call it toast.. Grendel - you got tappage for a jam nut's female partner?

I know this is a dumb question, but we all overlook the obvious at times...Have you tried using a different jam nut to ensure it isn't the thread of the jam nut that are off? If so then the only thing I can think of is to tap it.

got it..
A wee bit more torque did it. (enough to round off the valve tool)
