Some thoughts....

Well, here are my thoughts on this weekend.

THE GOOD:

1) Many thanks to the hosts for a (almost) free game and cheap paint. Very nice of you and much appreciated.

2) It is a great field. Love the variety. Nice castle, good village and the whole Omaha beach area is great. Nice pro shop. Good set up for entering.

3) Air station was nice, though there often seemed problems getting a tank filled to max or very slow filling (4500). Comparing here to Red Dawn at 24hour paintball in Dalton, GA last month which had the same basic set up for air and the stations were much faster to fill and always filled to the 3000/4500 limit. Not a biggy, but worth mentioning.

4) I thought the re-chrono at base when you enter and the on-field chrono were great ideas.

5) Loved the "build the bomb" idea.

6) Unlimited insertions was excellent.

7) Much fun was had and this is the most important thing.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT:

"Feedback is the single most important element in learning" John Wooden, the Wizard of Westwood.

1) All the locals on one team and all the out of towners on another is just crazy. The advantage to the locals is obvious. We would all like to know we have close to even assets going in. Especially when the blue team got the harder to defend base. Say what you want, everyone knows the base the blue team had is much harder to defend and has no fort sitting next to it. Fine, I can deal with disavantages, but this was an easy place to balance if you want to put all the locals on one team as you did. Just give them the harder to defend fort.

2) Information dissemination was poor. No pre-game talk by the blue commander. We had no idea about the flags to capture as you mention Skeeter because no one told us. Day 1 we thought the organization and information given to us was weak. Now, Day 2, we thought blue commander did a much better job. Overall, base security was lacking both days. And with a more vunerable base that was much needed.

3) Pro Ball paint was not breaking (Not PBC's fault of course) Lots of people on my team had this problem, which was probably due to the very hot temps. I was in the castle on a tower and laid a dozen shots into a guy at 25 feet, and he claimed he wasn't hit. I then fired another dozen shots into him, and again he claimed he wasn't hit. I then laid some more into him and he claimed he wasn't hit still. Now, here we are trying not to overshoot, and I have a dead shot on the guy and can't get one of maybe 40 balls I send at him to break? UGH. Not PBC's fault, but very frustrating. My buddy and I even shot at a bunker from 25 feet and watched the paint bounce against a wood wall.

4) Whining. Man, I have only been playing under a year now, but I have never heard so much whining as I did from the green team. Don't want to paint a broad brush and say everyone was, but a bunch of us just felt there was too much whining. In the above mentioned bounce situation, the guy who should have been out 3 times just kept whining to the ref about being blind fired at by someone in the castle.

I mean give me a break, grow up and stop the whining. I get telling someone to check themselves, but the whining is so damn annoying.

5) Final battle cheating. (not that I want to seem like a whiner, as frankly, who wins isn't as important as did we have fun?) A bunch of us on my team mentioned that at the final assulat on the blue base, players from green were not going in to their base and tapping in. So, you are out, go to the tree of life, tap it and go right back to the front line. Not cool.

Well, overall, we had a good time, but I probably wouldn't drive 5 hours to get there again for another scenario based on the issues many of us had. I think we all go to a certain number of these every year and we have to use our "Get out of jail free" cards wisely. I none the less envy those of you who live in Charleston and can play that field all the time! Many thanks to everyone from PBC for all your hard work and a nice, inexpensive event.

I am glad you enjoyed it. Nothing is free anymore (air at gas stations for example) but this one was meant to be a celebration of 10 years in business, we knew we would not make any money on it and I promise we did not. We had a few players that didn't buy a $10 shirt, used 1 3.5 oz Co2 for a $1 fill and bought 500 paintballs for $10. ( I sold it to them). Not to bad to play a weekend for $11. Of course I am sure he spent money on food, gas,etc..

Trust me the air thing had a severe pucker factor for us. We found out our air guy sold his stuff a few weeks ago. So after shopping around a little, we decided to give it a go ourselves. We had several malfunctions with the fill stations on Saturday and it was difficult to repair them quickly.

The locals were not all on one team. We placed people as they registered on one team or the other if they did not have a preference based soley on numbers. The only time this was affected was when we had Nitro sign up an intial 30 players. As they sent me more and more names I had to place them with their teammates so it would mean the single registered players would all go to one side until the teams evened out. To make matters a little worse, Shadow Company wanted to be on the same side as Nitro side again players would forced to the other side. What I saw was 2 large organized teams going to one team, and it concerned me as to the balance of the game. Steve aka Punisher was assigned as general for the Blue team and he pulled a lot of locals to his side. The general for the green team dropped out a week before the game so the replacment wasn't even in the loop until 2 days before the game. We had players trying to switch immediatley but I fought each one only giving in when the total numbers would allow it. I can easily pull the registration forms and check but my guess would be that there were 250 locals and 150 out of towners. And team wise the blue team had approx. 100 locals to the green teams 150. You can't blame a loss on the numbers of players and were they lived, you will have to tak it much deeper and look at age groups, what markers they owned, how long each player had been playing, etc., etc.
The lack of info about the flags was my fault. I completely forgot to mention it during the safety briefing. I did contact both generals before the game started though and told them both to please get the info out. The flag totals after the event were very close to even, so someone obviously knew about it. The blue general, well Steve is a great guy but I believe he may have celebrated a little too much before the game started. I can't help base security, there is nothing I can help with that one, blame your team

Paint. I wish I had been there for you to shoot someone 40 times and them not have one break or for them not to call out at 25 feet. 1) I would have stopped you way before you hit someone 12 times. 2) You and I would have had a long talk in the staging area about this, probably resulting in your removal from the property if you had actually hit him 40 times. When I talked to the Archon guy about the paint and if he had had any complaints he commented that most players were complaing about bouncing. But he said the complaints were coming in only in the afternoon and most players addmitted to storing the paint in their cars or in the direct sunlight. What he told me was that most players were surprised when he suggested they not buy 2 or 3 cases at a time and leave the unopened ones in the heat. But instead pick up 1 case at a time and leave the others in the air conditioned truck.
4) Whining. Man, I have only been playing under a year now, but I have never heard so much whining as I did from the green team. Don't want to paint a broad brush and say everyone was, but a bunch of us just felt there was too much whining. I can not control the whining, people whine every day about something

5) Final battle cheating. (not that I want to seem like a whiner, as frankly, who wins isn't as important as did we have fun?) I had a ref stationed on the road between the teams forts. He caught a couple of players trying to sneak in, I personnaly caught a group of 8 myself (BTW when I asked them why they thought they could do it they responded, we are from out of town and don't know the field). I found a couple (and only a couple) of blue players that got hit and walked to their base, tagged it and continued playing. I informed them of the proper way to reincarnate and they did so from that point on with no complaint. The same went for the green team. I had one player comment to me that the green team was spawning at
the road and i sent another ref to help the one that was there. Both commented later to me that both teams were leaving the field correctly.

I have diven a lot further and had a hell of a lot more problems at an event that were mostly related to the field itself and still returned to the field to play a game there with friends because I love the game. One thing I learned a long time ago was that not all the problems I may see may have been those "created" but others but instead may have beeen based on misconceptions in my mind.

I am glad you had fun, shame we will not see you again.

And so many port-a-johns that even in the heat they weren't (fill in the blank). Suggestions for next time:
1. Give more background to the players on the storyline. Did you read the Domination thread I posted?
2. Refs should be a little more polite and courteous when talking to players.I had 1 complaint about a ref and took care of it, I wish the players would be more polite to the refs.
3. Balance teams. Night game was off balance since the locals were mostly on one side and were at home for the night. This is a good one. The Blue team dominated the night play with at least 5 times the number of green players. I love how people knew the who was from where and what team they were on
4. Balance the bases. Green had a fort on a hill with 360 degrees of walls. Blue didn't have a fort to hide in.In the past 5 scenarios witht he bases the games are 3-2 going to the blue side.
5. Move the main bases to opposite ends of the field. It felt like 90% of the time was spent in the Village, Castle, and Omaha.Draw a straight line between the two bases and you have what you just described, or we could just make one team walk throught the middle of the field to get to their base.. hmnn which is better?
6. More missions. It felt like just playing woodsball with a ton of people instead of having distinct objectives that could be accomplished each time out.there were 25 missions per team and 13 flag counts. Both teams failed 6 missions each. How many missions do you go on?

Thanks for putting on the event. Can't wait to play again.
I appreciate suggetions( believe it or not) however you missed to two things that were the biggest problems. The stupid wait to get your player packs and me forgetting to mention the flags.

Thumbs up My two cents

After looking forward to Domination II for months I was not disappointed. PBCHARLESTON has a great staff , field , and pro shop. The attention to safety and the number of refs that were on the field, as well as the way the refs handled any infractions was admirable. The fighting was intense, Grumpy and Steve did a great job as generals, and made the weekend more fun. I had the chance to put a lot of faces to the names on PBJUNKIE and hope to come back to play any scenarios you guys have planned for the future. My hat goes off to you guys, I think yall did a great job.

Well I think the scenario was great. My nephew went with us and only his second time out he is hooked. The whole purpose of this scenario was to celebrate and have fun. I believe everyone did that. If you want to complain about everything that went wrong, take a step back and look what went right. Also if you think you will not come back because of those things, might I suggest you open your own field, pay for your insurance to open that field. Then try to please 400 people in one weekend. My hats off to everyone who worked to make this past weekend fun.

I had an excellent time this weekend considering this was only the 4th time I've ever played paintball. I am hopelessly addicted and can't wait to get my own gear.

The staff and refs were very professional which impressed me a great deal and the family atmosphere among players is one of the main reasons I love this sport.

A good time had by all with a great group of guys.

I had the privilege of working with some of the best teams who routinely brought home the bacon.

Thanks y'all.

Unfortunately i couldnt be there is past weekend but from reading peoples comments such as likes and dislikes it sounds like mostly blue team members that had a negative outlook toward the overall scenario. might that be because they....lost? of course if your team losses youre gonna be pessimistic about the whole thing. ive yet to see or hear a negative comment from a green player.

Brain and Skeeter:
other than the few people on here, ive heard great things about the scenario. i regret i that missed it. hopefully ill be around for the next one.
