Ion is smart parts, not too bad, plenty of upgrades available, and plenty of us out here that use some form of an Ion and know how to work on them. I cannot give any info on the others, sure someone will.

But to the point the pmr is basically a PM7 minus the LPR(Low Pressure Regulator) and it is not that bad but there are a few things that need to replced right out of the box which are the plastic back cap needs to be replaced by an aluminum one or it will eventually start to leak. The Clamp on the feedneck is also made of Poly(plastic) and if you dive wrong or slide wrong or over tighten it it will break. Some like the trigger some don't. You will either love it or hate it but it is easily replaced as well if you feel the need. The barrel is horrid I would recommend a J&J ceramic (More bang for the buck) unless you have a lot more money to spend on a kit or a UL barrel. As for the SLG it is a sear tripper version (Too Spyderesk(sp?) for me )but they are the same price as a PMR right now so out of the 2 I would buy the PMR but that is just my opinion. Honestly unless you absolutely have to have a brand new marker I would suggest buying a used but in good shape DM4 or 5 for around the same price and you will get a lot more bang for your buck. Again this is just my opinion but I have been shooting Dye markers for the last 5 years or so. Hope this helps...

i have a rail and i love it. i've had an ion- it's x10 better and the new SLG is nothing but a spyder with a dye body, dont waste your money. I belive a PM back cap will work, check Untitled Document for PM upgrades. I know for sure most PM up's will work for the rail, but the DM ups are a little different.

pm back cap WONT work.. pm5/6/7 all have extended caps that screw onto the tophat. PMR back caps use set screws to sorta hold itself loosly to the back of the bolt so it can spin but the bolt part wont spin.

you can get a used pm7 for about 450 if you look around. you'll be much happier with that than a pmr...

I have a PMR and an ION. Right now, the PMR retails new for $249.95, Ion $169.95, and the Ion XE $229.95. (The only major differences between the Ion and Ion-XE is that the XE has a bolt-out-back design, some different milling on the outer body, and a different feed-neck.)
The PMR is a good marker, except the o-rings from the factory are not always the best and may have to be replaced. The back-cap, may or may not be good. I have sold several PMR's and about half of them still have the original back cap on them. It is an upgrade you may be able to wait on. The barrel is not the best, but not the worst either. Any A/C barrel that you prefer will work. I use an Empire Revolver kit on mine, and am very satisfied with the performance. The SLG uses an old-school solenoid, but it is light, and only a slight bit louder (IMO) than the PMR or the Ions. Performance wise, I think the PMR is a better value for the money than either the Ion or the SLG. The Ion and Ion XE are decent markers for the cost, but if you plan on putting a Halo-B on them, you will have to replace the Ion's feedneck or it will never come off again. Also, most people replace the trigger, and the ASA (adding a micro-drop with an on/off). Additionally, most people get a new barrel as the stock one leaves something to be desired. The new Ions use the same threads as the Shockers, whereas the first generation of the Ion had a unique thread. (I may have this backwards, and the newer Shockers have now been changed to the Ion thread... cannot remember.. doh!) Overall, I rank the markers the following way: 1) PMR 2) Ion XE 3) SLG 4) Ion |
