Woody, I don't think you can afford to cut down the forest around the homestead... Glad to hear everyone is ok.

Glad to hear good news, I have not seen pics, how is the damage? Hope it's not too bad, we have some folks in (sp?) Escension parrish right down the road from the Dukes of Hazzard bar? Do not know what that means. They were trying to get up to Ark., but I have not heard anything from them yet.
My inlaws live in Slidell, please post up when the all clear goes up. They stopped in Ala. but are planning on continuing up to here for a spell. Hotels and motels are ripping people, bitches!!
We should be allowed at times of distress during "acts of nature" to pull our markers out and blast those who try and make a proffit from death and disaster. The prices of certain things like fuel, lodging, food & supplies should be dropped by 50% at least instead of raising everything double or triple.Cast a vote in Nov.

St. Tammany, Jefferson, Westbank, Laplace and other Northshore cities open Wednesday morning at 6am for citizens to return. Power is still out in most of Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, Abita and LaComb from what I understand. Power on in numerous areas of Metairie, some areas of Westbank. If you have friends or relatives that live down here and have a hotel room right now, you should suggest that they hold off at least one more day and make sure they have power before returning. I know my area (around St. Tammany Hospital) is still without power as is most of the lake front subdivisions in Mandeville.
It sucks to come home to a dark house with no A/C, so a hotel room might be a little more comfortable for at least one more night.
Damage is not really bad in the area. Ol'Dawg has told me that lots of trees are down on the NorthShore, so I have no idea which roads are open and when power will be restored. I may know more tommorrow. I don't have internet access at the house right now (duh, no power either) so it may be a few days till I get a chance to post again. Tell your family to call neighbors or call the store to see if power is back. The store is located in Mandeville, so if they call and get our answering machine, then they can be pretty sure they will have power if they are in our area- Mandeville, by Hwy 190 & Hwy 22.
Damage to New Orleans is not as bad as many thought either, however, they are not opening to residents till at least Thursday. Watch Fox news for more info on that.
AND PLEASE...if they come back and use a generator, please tell them to be careful when refueling. Just got back from a fire that was caused because the guy refueled his generator while it was running. Bad...very bad. His garage survived the storm, just not this little accident.
Thanks for all the encouragement...it has really helped keep me going during this. The storm was a piece of cake. Dealing with the Government and department administration has been more stressful then dealing with the storm effects. But I guess that's the case in any job. I just don't play the political game. I am a firefighter and paintballer...not a politician and I have a bad habit of telling them to suck on certain things when they frustrate me. That generally leads to a lot of yelling and screaming on both sides. Don't believe everything you hear on the news coming from these government officials...most of it is bullshit.

Oh Milkshake...

You are so right! I got Wife a room at the Comfort Inn in Bossier City. She went to check in and the manager treated her like crap. So she told him to stick the reservation and went down the street to a Holiday Inn and was treated like gold (the way a lady should be treated). I called Hotel.com and filed a complaint and demanded a refund. Hotels.com was pretty quick to react and refunded my CC for the reservation. They started to explain thier cancellation policy and I told them that the manager was so rude to my wife that she did not even check in and that if they did not make a full refund I was calling the CC company and disputing the charges. They did a full refund and apologized for the incident.
It had been a frustrating day here at the station, so just to make myself feel better, I called the hotel and chewed the manager out for making it even more stressful for me. It's hell trying to take care of family when you are stuck in a hurricane diesaster zone and can't grab the sucker that's make life miserable for loved ones at that moment and shake the hell out of them.
Anyone that feels they are being ripped by price gouging should file a complaint with that area's better business association.
