Ok, here I sit in a Fire House "Trailer". Thanks to Jester for packing up the store earlier today to protect our inventory from Hurricane Gustav. Wanted to be there to do it together, but duty calls.
Anyway, is 7:30pm and the first feeder band has arrived in Jefferson (just outside New Orleans). Was just talking to my wife on the cell and suddenly the sky went black and the winds started really kicking like my NME on full auto ramp. Building across the street from the trailer lost an aluminum roof panel in just a matter of a few minutes.
Rain is just hammering right now...but should calm down in a few minutes according to the weather radar. It is supposed to get really nasty around midnight, and continue to get worse until the storm comes ashore in the morning.
Not sure if they (the higher ups) are going to move us out to one of the local hospitals or let us sit in the stations. Since we are next door to a real fire house (mine is still being rebuilt) we can hunker down there while this storm tries to bunker our butts.
My Engine was sent out of town yesterday so we are running with just my Rescue Squad right now. Out of 9 Engine companies, 4 Ladder companies and 2 Squad companies...we are running with just 5 spare Engine companies and my Rescue Squad company. All others have been sent out of town to keep them safe.
So far all is running ok, but don't know how long I will have internet access. Will try to keep ya'll up to date as time passes.

Please let us know how it is Wolfen, I have Slidell folks here sometime tomorrow and would love to have someone down there keep me updated so the boot, uhhh, so they can safely return home, yea, thats the answer

Got out of hospital safe area about 1:30PM, got tired of waiting for higher ups to get us out so we took one of my crew-members POV (big diesel truck) and made our way back to the station. Amazingly our temp trailers survived. Lots of trees down and some power lines. No flooding in Jefferson right now, however Westbank is having problems right now with levees overtoping. Will most probably have some of our Spec-Ops teams sent over there along with maybe an Engine or my rescue squad to assist.
Rode storm out at EJ Hospital and is wasn't too bad. Saw worse in the pass, but the winds were really kicking butt! Not much rain. Watching news via internet right now because cable is out and it looks like the French Quarter is just fine for you party animals.
River is high and so is lake right now. News says that flood surge has not hit just yet, so waiting to see if that brings us some more surprises.
It's about 5:30pm now and wind is still screaming thru. Gonna be an exciting night!

Just heard on news that Lower Lafitte is now flooding, guess it may be time to get wet soon...
