some markers are capable of higher rates of fire than gravity feed hoppers can deliver. there are aggitated hoppers, ie Revi's etc. and force feed hoppers and warp feeds. The faster you marker the faster your hopper needs to be. Kinda like the whole "The chain is only as strong as the weakest link" thing. You'd have a near usless marker if you placed a gravity feed on a dm4 for instance....

my 2 cents...

With a regular hopper like yours you can feed a few balls a second but every once and awhile you will have to shake the hopper because the balls will get stuck, especially in humid weather. This can lead to chopped balls. Hoppers that agitate or force feed eliminate balls not being fed into the chamber. If you only shoot 2-3 balls a second you may not need to bother with one, but once you get over 4 or 5 balls a second you will notice chopping becoming more of an issue because of misfeeding by the hopper. So if you are shooting really fast and chop balls you need to get a better hopper. Hope this helps.

About $45 for a good hopper. Actionvillage has got Apache hoppers for $48 and I think they feed over 14 or 15 balls a second. Should be plenty good for what you do.

For your needs I would stick with a Revy or similar hopper (Empire makes a similar version). They are by far the best bang for your buck and honestly even those with “faster” markers don’t need the high priced hoppers they put on them most of the time. What a marker is “capable” of doing is seldom what the user is really doing… even if the marker tells them so (note: most counters and speed devices on markers count the shortest period between shots and calculates THAT and claims your ROF. This in most cases is NOT accurate and is in no way close to the shooter’s actual ROF.).

And being you are an LPPC member, I would imagine your playing style is much like our other members (and mine as well). This would indicate that you would most likely be more than happy with a Revy or similar hopper. I use both a Revy and the Empire Reloaded (version before the current one… the one that looked exactly like a revy… they had to change the looks because of product infringement rights) and am very happy with both.

ADDED NOTE:
Out of all the “upgrades” available for markers, I always recommend a motorized hopper be the first one made. Most folks don’t even consider this an upgrade since it is not actually part of the marker, but I do. For the money it will improve your game more than any one change you make to the marker, to include barrels, bolts, or any other part.
