Thank you for the warm welcome. I am going to head to a local paintball shop today to see what they have in stock. I am guessing between 200 to 400 to get started. I saw a Tippmann 98 "starter" kit for 200.00 That might be the way to start.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Eric |

The Tippman 98 is a good gun to start with. Very dependable kind of like the "AK" of paintball it can be a little clunky but it'll fire every time given basic care. It also has a plathora of aftermarket "upgrades" available for it though I'd recommend to stay stock for awhile until you get used to it.
More then the gun your most important purchase and one you should not chintz on is your mask. First it is very important to have good safe goggles/mask to protect your eyes. Second there is nothing worse than having your goggles fog up on you while you are playing. Go with a goggle that has a "thermal" lense for recommendations [I've used and/or owned all of these]: 1 - JT Spectra Flex7 or 8 2 - VForce Profiler/Morph 3 - E-Vents The "Tippman" goggles in the pre-made packages are not "thermal" and can fog badly. It's better to spend good money on a good set of goggles then cheap out at first then have to buy the good ones anyways. Last edited by Grendel; 11-10-2007 at 10:56 AM. Welcome to pbjunkie. I owned a Tippman 98c as my second marker and I enjoyed it. Like Grendel said, it is a very reliable marker and extremely customizable. I enjoyed using it.
Grendel isnt lying about a good set of googles. I didnt know much about the gear when I first started and wished I found a site like this. I also found out during my noobie expriance not to use windex on your goggles that dont fog up because it will remove that protective film and allow them to fog up a lot. Ya I know. BIG NOOB. Any way welcome to the site.

Thanks guys for the nice welcome. I just got back from the shop. They had a 98 (barely used) for 125.00 - I think I may go ahead and get it tomorrow. I agree about the eye protection, I am a diver (another fun hobby) and masks and other gear that is used for safety is always the best. How do people like the E-Vents? I did a quick search and have found the name pops up a lot.
Thank you eric |

Quote:
Vents goggles are GREAT, I started using the first generation Vents goggles back in 1991. They were the first goggle to offer wide vision and I have NEVER had a pair of Vents goggles fog up, AND I SWEAT LIKE A PIG! The new Vents and E-Vents have been out for almost two years now, and I like them better than my old pairs (and I have to BUY these, NO MORE SPONSORSHIP, (Drat... gettin old SUCKS!) TIP # 5 or 6 (lost count): As told to you earlier in this thread, NO CLEANERS ON LENSES, Ammonia will fog the polycarbonate lense and weaken it. Use only WATER to clean your lenses. If you can afford it get a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses. Or old socks or t-shirts, underwear (Clean! NO TRACKS) are usually nice and soft and won't scratch your lenses. Treat this mask the same as you would your dive mask, only better. Welcome again to the group... NOW GET OUT THERE AND SHOOT SOMEBODY!! (With paintballs of course, don't want to upset the authorities ya know.) ![]() |
