I was a Nuke ET in the Navy and used to moonlight at Maine Yankee while I was stationed at the Portsmouth, NH shipyard. She is most likely gone now

I'm afraid so..

Maine Yankee, Yankee Rowe and Connecticut Yankee, have been completely decommisioned, and are "Green Fields" except for the ISFSI pads. I spent the last 9 years working the decommisionings at Rowe, and CY.

Now I'm "On the Road Again" down in SC working at Oconee

Maine Yankee was on it's last leg back in the late 80's. My family [In-Laws] are always pressuring me to go back into Nuclear Power and work at VC Summer here in SC but I just never really enjoyed my job while I was a nuke. I have nothing against Nuclear Power and I was good at my job but it just never interested me much after I got qualified. I guess everyone else is pretty happy when a Nukes job is unexciting but it makes for some long shifts.

I know what ya mean, I have had a love-hate relationship with the Nuclear industry for the last ten years, while I was decommissioning Rowe, and CY. I LOVE my job in Radiation Protection, and I'm really good at it. But during the decommissioning work, I absolutely HATED most of the people I worked with/for. There was maybe a half-dozen people I enjoyed working with who kept the places tolerable.

Now I'm on the road again, and things are much better, good people, good working conditions, only problem is being away from wife and daughter. So I sit here punching out greeting to you guys and gals, not QUITE the same, but I'm having a little fun and meeting new people who share a common interest... WE LIKE TO SHOOT EACH OTHER... REPEATEDLY..

I have been to Maine Yankee before. I didnt work there. I was only going on a school field trip. Lol it is kind of funny. I was still a kid when they announced that it was closing and I remember thinking that I didnt want it to close because I had fun on the trip.

I dont even remember what the trip was like but I do remember all that.

Oh last I checked isnt Portsmouth still in the middle of a dispute? Trying to figure out wether it is owned by NH or ME? If it is the same place I am thinking of, then I believe it is owned by ME .

It's called Portsmouth Shipyard but resides across the river in Kittery, Maine.
