You can call me Big Poppa

Me and some of my friends have recently started playing paintball, a lot. I was looking into buying a marker for woodsball, and was wanting some suggestions. My friends call me Big Poppa, so thats what you all can call me.

Hello. I would suggest a tippmann 98 or a-5 as a first marker. They will last forever.

Hey ChiefBigPoppa! Welcome to PBjunkie.com! This place is where we all hang out while we are not on the field. I would recommend you get your hands on a sniper II and be done with marker purchases for the rest of your life.

Hiya CheifBigPoppa welcome to the forum. I agree, get a pump and never buy another gun. But hey however you play. Check out some of the scenario games (I didn't see your location (I didn't look)) but from what I've seen alot of people here are from the southeast. So hopefully we'll see you at some scenario games. Once again, welcome.

Welcome….

What marker you get depends on a lot of factors, such as your style (semi/pump), type of game (you stated woodsball so that is answered), and BUDGET.

As stated, a great marker for woodsball, for both beginners and seasoned players, is the Tippmann 98 Custom, or A-5. They will last you a lifetime, are easy to maintain, and have plenty of accessories for them. If you go with the 98 Custom though, you will want to get a motorized hopper as well (since they only come with a shake-n-bake hopper). I would recommend a Revy or Empire’s equivalent (Reloader). They are the best bang for your buck and for most players it is all they really need.

Pumps are also a great deal of fun, but they are not for everyone. So I would suggest getting your hands on one and playing a few games with it first. You should know pretty quick if you like it or not. And then you have a wide range of choices for pump play. Again, your budget will help determine what is best for you.

If you are looking for a more “exotic” marker (either pump OR semi) and have some money to spend, I suggest looking at Palmers Customs markers. My primary marker is a PPS Stroker (converted Piranha short barrel into a semiauto marker) which I use in pistol mode. Pictures of it can be seen in the Paranha Junkie here on the forums. But PPS has a lot of great markers. And when I say “exotic” I don’t mean “fancy”, I mean not run of the mill that you see on the field. They are very “old school” and have some heft to them… similar to real firearms, which I like. Personally I like to feel my marker in my hands, not like I am playing with a child’s toy…. But that is just me.

Well, off I go, it seems I am either always in the middle of working or getting ready to head out the door…….

Hey thanks man. I take it you play at Paintball of Charleston. Next time you're out there, look for the guys in Navy coveralls with V-XI on their backs. Thats me and my boys. See you on the field. Oh, by the way, I settled on the A-5 with the response trigger and a 14in Empire Twister.
