Had a similar thing happen when I was but a Lad,still soaked behind the ears, I was spending time in the First-Aid Station at Summer Camp (Boy Scouts) and the Ex-Army Medic and I had to go to one of the camp site and remove a piece of board from the floor of a tent, then wrap the kids foot, blade, and floor board all together for transport to the hospital. It was quite a lesson, this ex-army medic, "Snake" (weren't they all?) questioned and taught me through the whole thing. The whole time we were laughing our asses off at this kid of about 13 with his foot pegged to the floor with a 6' hunting knife!

Now that was fun!!

We kill more airborne before 09:30 than other units do all day...
