HA!! Sir Rod you wouldn't believe how much Tony CHA CHA's can save you from MRE induced starvation. After about 6 months even the supplied Tobasco bottle can't help (Please forgive me Tobasco gods). This coming from a Louisiana boy.

You wouldn't beleive the amount of crap that soldiers bring along with them on deployment. If you only bring army crap with you it's going to be a long boring deployment. My last deployment I brought a 32" TV, surround sound DVD player and an Xbox. I lived like crap my first deployment and vowed not to do it again.

Sir Rod. Actually I just came in from packing for my upcoming deployment. I'm a mechanic so all my really cool stuff is in the form of tools. The infantry can have all the other cool stuff.

Oh man, basic was only 5 and a half years ago but it seems like a lifetime. Tell him to remember that it's only a game and the Drill Sgt's are just actors. I know a few former drills and they're really cool guys. It's just like any organization, you have to give then new guys hell to see if they hack it. The fun doesn't stop at basic and AIT either. When he gets to his first unit he's going to get a Squad Leader who, if he's worth his salt is going to get his kicks off screwing with him (Like Me!!).

What's his future MOS?
Has he picked what post he's going to? (Better hope it's not Fort Riley, I live there)

The most inportant thing for his to remember is to have fun. Leave the being angry and hating his job to NCO's where it belongs.
