2 suggestions.

Try insignia blackout called Em-Nu from a surplus / uniform shop. Make sure to lightly scruff them up a bit (a nail foam works, and it's dirt cheap) so the colorant will adhere to the nickel plating on the fitting.
A 3.00 bottle will easily coat 30+ fittings.

Or.. Black shrink tubing. Lowes, Home depot, Pep Boys or a local car stereo installer will have it for 2-3 bucks a bag.

Install the fittings on the gun/reg/asa then slide the shrink-tubing over them, take a blow-dryer or a lighter to it and the heat will shrink to fit. Take the fitting in to the shop to get the right size tubing.
Be sure not to get the fitting too hot as some units have an oring in them that could be damaged. Trim the edge where the macroline goes in. bingo.

Hope this helps.

Well I haven't tired it yet but if you just paint the metal the paint will flake off from my understanding. I am having the same problem with my fittings. I amm going to try an anodize my pieces. Google "Anodize at Home" A guy has posted an artical on how to anodize aluminum parts. It sound simple. If you do fin some fitting some where please let me know.

pretty sure the macro line fittings arnt aluminum tho. believe they are nickle plated brass. which im almost positive wont anodize. if it were that simple people would have made colored macroline fittings years ago.

Yea being a painter for 30 years I can tell you no paint will stay on the nickle plating. Plating has to be removed then, the remaining metal needs to be acid etched for any paint to stick. Citric acid or viniger will do the etching, roughing up the surface will not last. The etching goes to the molecular level that sanding or scratching will not do.
As suggested above the best bet would be find fittings alredy done, or use the shrink wrap. Also the cheepest would be to use electrical or duct tape to shield the shine.
