Spec Ops Fusion gear
Tacoma, WA.
artical by Young Choi No more BDU’s, cammies, or any other military surplus crap to ball in anymore. I don’t even know how our servicemen/women can stand the Middle Eastern heat with the current uniform. There are no venting, you sweat like a pig, and worst of all everything chafes your skin when sweat is rubbing against anything. Now if you have been a long time reader of my articles, you all know how much I despise the “crotch sweat.” It is nasty and you come home all funky feeling. Why can’t a manufacturer come out with good tournament grade stuff that has massive venting, sweat wick-away materials, and most of all tailored/designed for paintball? I’m surprised other clothing manufacturers haven’t jumped on board the “Woodsball Warrior” wagon. But a visionary company called Special Ops has released their Special Ops Fusion Battle Jerseys and Pants. The Special Ops Fusion Pants and Jersey are a Weekend Warriors wet dream. Special Ops have adopted the US Marine Corps digital camo effect to make a woods baller blend into the environment. We all have seen the cool digital camo on CNN; the new digital camo has proven to be the most effective camouflage pattern. The digital camo is sublimated into the material of the fabric. The Special Ops Fusion Pants are tournament grade paintball pants with all the necessary padding, pockets, and best of all massive venting. The mesh venting runs down the whole length of the inside of the leg. The crotch area is made of a breathable elastic material and the fly is padded. The waist of the pants has belt loops and the Fusion Pants also have adjustable Velcro straps to adjust the fit on your waist. The waist itself is also made of elastic material so the pants stay fit around your waist even while crawling. Each leg has a long zipper to widen the legs so that you can access your boots easier. I also found it easy to take off the pants with my cleats still on with this cool feature. There are multiple pockets on these pants. On each of the legs there are pockets for your Straight Shot Squeegee. On each thigh there are large cargo pockets big enough to carry rags, paintball grenades, and most other hand-sized objects. Each of the cargo pockets also has a slot to carry foldable Battle Swabs. The front and back pockets are there. If I could change some things about these pants I would make the front pockets deeper or have the ability to Velcro or zip them open and closed. If you have anything you don’t want to lose, the front pockets are not what you want to put them in. Same goes for the back pockets. Though they are long and deep, there is nothing to securely close them. Zippers or Velcro would have been a great addition. Other than my small beef with the front and back pockets, the Special Ops Fusion Pants are a must to have for any serious woods baller. The digital camouflage is very effective and the construction is rock solid. When I wore the pants at a local field, many people came up to admire the pants even the bright colored tournament players. Everyone agreed that it was cool that someone was making camouflaged pants for paintball. The Special Ops Fusion Jersey is made of 100% polyester. (The same material that most all manufacturers use to make jerseys.) The polyester is a very breathable material with great sweat evaporating properties. There is vented mesh around the arm and shoulder joints. The neckline is high on the jersey so there are no longer bare skin ball. The shoulders are nicely padded and also absorb some of the shock from the impact of the ball. The elbow and forearm are also nicely padded to give you some protection while you are lying down in the prone position or while crawling. My take on things Special Ops has done an outstanding job with their Fusion line. I do have some minor gripes but those are very minor, but I do like the fit and the effectiveness of the camouflage. Though I prefer the faster game on the airball/speedball fields, I really was excited when I got my set of Fusion gear. Funny how for years the industry fought so hard to get out of the woods and away from camouflage, yet camouflage is making a comeback like throwback jerseys. I was amazed about the compliments that I got from everyone while wearing the Fusion gear at an indoor field that is strictly X-Ball orientated. Finally, someone has manufactured camouflaged clothing that has all the bells and whistles of the high end tournament pants. Nice, just wish they had a few more camo paterns. $144 for pants and jersey is not to bad. The "Special Ops tactical digi-camo pattern" just isn't really doing anything for me. I think I'll stick with my good old poly/cotton tigger stripe long sleeve tee (and at $14.00 i'll pocket the $45 price dif for the jersey).

Yup I think i will stick with the cheaper military wear too. Also the summer BDU's cool just fine for me. I see kids and adults every weekend out there playing in the winter BDU's that could be a reason why lots of people are so hot in them??????? Just my take.
The best camo to get though is the blue jeans and the blue jeans jacket. Yeap or the white T-shirt. And while your wearing this please walk over by someone laying down in a good sniper spot takeing people out left and right and say "hey how you doing need any help" For somereason unknow to man kind this keeps happening to me every frecking weekend. But oh well im sitting here laughing my butt off just thinking about it now. L8R Chad |
