Brainstorming : Pre-Registration & Team Picking
Hey all - I dont represent MPPGames or anysuch thing, but I heard a little bird suggest that Ben is open to suggestions on how to pick teams in the weeks leading up to a big event so the teams can then plan and talk a bit more smack.
So lets use this thread and maybe let Ben and Bonnie hear from us and the ideas we can come up with.... ------------------------------------------------------------ I'll start w/ my suggestion : The Banana Draft - Mark 1, Mod 0 ------------------------------------------------------------ Ben requests for Generals around 6-8 weeks prior to a big event. 5 weeks prior to the event, Ben accounces on public forum the Generals and their teams, what side and what base. He requests team chime in their intentions to attend or not, and forecast their expected numbers. Teams chime in on public forum their intentions to attend and likely number of attendees. This dynamic list of teams and projected numbers is maintained on-line in the "DRAFT POOL" ROUND1 3 weeks prior to the event, the Generals alternating pick their first 2 teams (includes any XO's and their teams) Starting pick decided by coin toss. Pick only from the DRAFT POOL. The choices are made public on public forum and the team list updated. ROUND2 2 weeks prior to the event, the Generals alternating picking next 2 teams. Starting pick decided by coin toss. Pick only from the DRAFT POOL. The choices are made public on public forum and the DRAFT POOL updated. ROUND3 1 week prior to the event, the Generals alternate picking next 2 teams. Starting pick decided by coin toss. Pick only from the DRAFT POOL. The choices are made public on public forum and the DRAFT POOL updated. ROUND4 3 days prior to the event, the Generals alternate picking next 2 teams. Starting pick decided by coin toss. Pick only from the DRAFT POOL. The choices are made public on public forum and the DRAFT POOL updated. Any teams remaining in the DRAFT POOL are moved into the OPEN POOL OPEN POOL night before event, Ben designates remaining teams. At this point, any teams in the draft that registered in-part, or had a large number of no-shows or canceled, Ben can make adjustments in the OPEN POOL portion of this Banana Draft. This list is posted online so all the kiddie who could not make it can see what is going on. *side note : a producer's worst nightmare is running out of paint. I feel this technique will provide an excellent snapshot of numbers early on, get the teams involved early and excited. I can see a sponsor getting involved in the draft in someway -- with a prise package announcment named after each round. (i.e., a Round 1 sponsor) *side note : Generals also loose the ability to gripe about the teams they were dealt, cause they picked them - at least most of them. *side note : the smaller and younger teams will be encouraged to develop, organize and grow so they become a team that could go in an early draft round. * side note : I can see a maximum team size of 20 to 24 being suggested - anyteam larger than that may have to count as two picks. I request comments and suggestions on this idea.
