New guys need your help.

Hello to all. As you can tell by the handle the name is gimpy. From all of you new guys and some of the older ones as well I would like some help. When you came to this great sport what things were unclear to you. I ask this because I am going to be writing a book that will be distributed and it is going to explain everything you need to know. but I want to cover everything.

Most of the things that were an issue when I started playing (I was riding my pet Dinosaur) don't apply today. What I have seen over the years is that 99% of all new players don't realize they can play on a field with players of similar experience, and don't need to be blasted on a Speedball field by guys shooting 20+ balls-per-second. I have seen more new players get suckered into playing on speedball fields with rental equipment, against experienced "Tourny-wanna-be's" that I care to think about.

Alot of that is the fault of the field owner, but if new players get one piece of info they need is: Always play with players of similar experience and equipment when starting out.

This is of course second only to: ALWAYS wear Goggles designed SPECIFICALLY FOR PAINTBALL!

Thumbs up

Thanks guys.. Good luck with your pain meds and hope to hear from you..
man a dinosour that is old.. lol I love your sig with AGD that was one of my first hi end markers.. i had a RT mag with warp feed.. and loved it..
i will have to post the index.. alot of which i have covered.. although i do believe that even kids with rentals can hop in on a tourny game as longs as it isnt Rentals vs the SP factory team. you know.. i dont want new people to fear the game.. the worst thing that can happen is you get shot.. and if your not up for that your in the wrong game. I am giving lots of scenarios.. things like a basic day at the field .. First tournement.. First scenario game.. Teams ... Techniques on how to shoot ... equipment selection and how to find whats for you ... things like that..even a little survey to find out what kind of player you are if you dont know. For those intrested i can send a copy of a rough draft to see what you think and i am always welcome to constructive critisim. and if I take what you give me you will be credited in the book.. I am not lookin to make major profit off of this .. i am just trying to do my part for the paint ball community and make it last. and try to let the new guy know that everyone is welcome in a paintball community as long as you have detemination and the right attitude.

I would include various slang terms used commonly, bunker names/images/calling them out on the field, proper names for gear(i.e., pods not tubes or ammo holders<have heard this used multiple times XD, loaders or hoppers, tanks or bottles, the term marker is preferable to gun, etc.). A few drills any one can do/use just to improve, not necessarily tournament oriented(snapping, sliding, diving, etc.) I'll think of more and post it up I'm sure.

confidence... that is a huge problem among young players IMO... when i first started it seemed like everybody else were paintball buddies who had been playing together forever and i was kind of afriad to jump in there game... as such i got stepped all over... till i found out that in this sport you have to be a little cocky... and just go do your thing... who would have thought that this sport couold also be come an employment later on...
