Technical name? (Woodsball?)

Hello all,

I've been playing paintball solidly for about a year now. While speedball is cool, I'm looking to get more into the woodsball(?) side of things- especially if there are tournaments.

What I would like to know is if there are any "woodsball" type tournaments? I'm not talking about scenario games, that's not my style. I'm just looking for 5vs5 elimination style games in the woods. What can I say- bunkering freaking rocks, but I also want a little more hide and seek.

So that being said, if the catchall term "woodsball" even the corret nomer? Is there a term possibly more specific? Recball as I understand it is more open field with non-air inflated obstacles (spools, etc.). Woodsball denotes- playing paintball in the woods? Nothing more specific?

The problem I run into is that while searching for tournaments online, Google finds a ton of hyper/air/Xball tournies. Searching for woodsball mainly returns scenario.

Any help finding elimination style 3v3/5v5/7v7/etc. woodsball(?) tournaments would be greatly appreciated.

-RM

What you are talking about is how tournaments used to be. With the advent of the newer barracades the tournaments have moved out of the woods for the most part. This is primarily due to the ability for specators to watch the games. I do not personally know of a tournament series that caters to the old tournament style, although the Pan Am series would probably be the closest.

Actually, the MSPA series was still running a few events in the trees as late as last year I believe. Now this was only on certain fields and I heard most of their events were moving into the modern era of airball fields. However, you may be able to find out more from some of the people who played it last year. I'm sure there are still some old-school teams out there rockin the camo, you just gotta look pretty hard...no pun intended.
MSPA = Mid South Paintball Assoc. no idea about a web site but maybe it's a start?

Pan Am used to be halfway older type fields, but they have moved to 7 man format. Following suite to NPPL, I doubt they will have tournaments like they used to, expect mainly airball setups in their series. They are now known as the XPSL.
