Well, if you are talking about real old school paintball we didn't have pump guns as you see them now. The majority of guns available were the Nelspot 007, Sheridan PG, and a few other pump pistols. The majority of the games were played on large plots of land (100 acres wasn't uncommon) with flags located around the field. The players typically played indivdually and the goal was to capture each of the flags. Tactics were much more important than the gun.
The paint we used was whatever we could get our hands on. Typical price was around .10 to .15 a ball and they were wax with an animal fat based paint. When you got hit it stunk and would never wash out. Games could easily last an entire day to try to get five people out.

So basically you could tell how much people played by how much they stunk or how many stains they had on their shirts :p .

Everyone seemed to end up with some paint on them at some time. We also had people that didn't have guns and threw socks filled with chalk to mark their opponent. You have to remember, paintball guns weren't that easy to get back in the day.

Throwing socks full of chalk.. wow that would be unheard of nowadays. But back then did you have anybody using slingshots?

Slingshots were pretty common. Or wrist rockets as we called them. The games back then relied more on skills and the guns were just something throw in.

I have played with a sling shot before, really good if you want to be quiet and just pick someone off without giving away your position.

I've been tempted to go out with a slingshot before, be pretty funny when someone realized how you got them out.

Just commenting Steven, but remember the slingshot we used...it was hard to push 160-180fps. Fun though
