typically my strategy is to get expensive paint cheap. Typically i have to play a little more thrifty, so i go for the cheap stuff. actually i have had uncannily good shots with cheap walmart stuff

from a fields perspective..

I really thing every "field paint only" paintball field should offer at least two grades of paint - a less expensive brand for those who dont case or make up for it by volume, and a better grade for those who care enough only to send the very best..

And every now and then the white box stuff shoots really good...

Personally - I play pump, and when one ball must count, its nice to know it "should" fly and break reliably. I know the stock class players take their paint pretty seriously. The XO Velocity was a great suprise of a good field paint, and the last batch of Circuit we got shoots suprisingly well for field paint - better than many higher dollar paintballs Ive seen. I think the adjustable backs for barrels and lower pressure options has made paint quality less of an issue for many players since you can tune your marker to the paint as opposed to dialing the paint to your marker.

ps: attention field owners : NEVER NEVER NEVER BUY SKITTLES or factory seconds for field paint. You will loose customers!!!

Thats true. We played one field where seconds was the field paint & was still VERY high.

i have even played at the fields where they sell the cheap stuff as expensive paint. I have even seen a field which will go unnamed selling paint by the tube calling it proball when it was actually the el cheapo special. now thats not the way to sell paint

What is more cost effective?

The expensive paint brands/labels are generally there for a reason (just like car tires). You almost always get what you pay for, but I don't know of a any paint that should cost $100 or more per case. The best/top shelf paint on the planet should only cost 70-80 per case at any "decent" shop of field. Any more than that, and you are getting bent over without a reach around.

As for paint: What costs more? Shoot 10-20 shots of good, accurate, break on target paint at $100 per case, to get an elimination? Or shoot 50-100 rounds of inaccurate, break in the barrel or bounce off your opponent paint at $45 a case, to get an elimination?

Just like car tires. They all look the same from the outside. The quality is in the performance. When your paintball "life" is on the line, do you want to trust the generic paintball, or the tried and true name brand paintball.

There needs to be a brand of paint called "el-cheapo".

I have had the best 'happiness' using the middle of the road stuff. That way I get performance and still have enough left over to eat.

i usually buy a case of evil from the local simpsons hardware store for 50 bucks a case, it saves me about 7 bucks a case instead of buying from the field i play.

I use to buy a case of Hurricane paint everytime i would go to my home field, i wouldnt buy it at the field. Its about 60 bucks a case, now the first case i bought shot just fine and dandy, but about 3 months later i go and buy another case just to find out that there too small for my barrel, needless to say i had about a half a case sit in the closet for six months........put it through my pipe and still broke. But for now on im buyin my paint from my field, and plan on spendin at least 70-80 dollars on marbs, or evil.

PS. My marker is picky on paint.
