Danger! HPA & Oil Do Not Mix!

This is a perfect example of what could happen when someone unknowingly puts "a few drops" of marker oil in a HPA tank fill nipple. This player tells his tale after suffering the consequences... Graphic images...

I have always known it could happen "in theory". First documented case of pressure ignited oil vapor explosion in this industry, that I have seen. Very good to know. Wonder exactly what the conditions were (temperature, quantity and type of oil...), and at what pressure and fill rate???

PS: An industry driven by paintball players, for paintball players, is better than an industry driven by non-paintball players for dollars.

I have had on several occasions air fill people tell me to put a drop of oil on a leaking fill nipple to loosen up the ball bearing inside. Glad this never happened to me, I'd have crapped in my pants for sure!!

I find it hard to believe that this guy had this much damage to his tank/regulator and his person from residual oil in the female HP connector. IMHO, it was surely a result of lubricant being dropped into the fill nipple at some point. While his injuries are terrible, me thinks this smacks of someone trying to avoid being tagged with the stupid stick.
