Paintball victim's mother asks shooters to take responsibility

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

The mother of a young woman who was shot in the eye with a paintball gun as she stood at a bus stop in Ottawa's east end is calling on the culprits to turn themselves in.

"I would like to say to them that I think that every single human being has decency in them and if they could find it in themselves to be decent, to feel compassion, to take responsibility for what they've done, this is an important step in their lives," Jan Roos said in an interview on Wednesday.

you know for a crime like this the girl should get to shoot her attackers in the eyes, If we need a "eye for an eye" punishment systems after a while you would not see so many people doing stupid things as you just going to get done to you what you do to others.

Yah they can, talking to Irish Baller they already have laws over in Ireland. The govenment is saying that it is a firearm and they have to have fixed stocks and you have to have a license to purchase and own one. I hope she's okay, that looked rough.

There is also a move in the house to classify paintball guns the same as regular fire arms. This will mean that in order to purchase one, you will have to have a gun license, go to a gun training course, etc. I have already written my congressmen and told them to vote against the bill.

Really, a paintball marker is, in its basic form, compressed air pushing paint through a tube. If they regulate paintball guns, the same language could be used for cans of spray paint. Imagine having to get a gun license to spray paint your kids' bike...

This is absolutly absurb, my heart and prayers goes out to the young lady and her familly.

IMO anyone who uses any "GUN" be it paintball, bb, pellet, or firearm, in the committing of a crime or vandelism, should be prosucuited to the fullest extent of the law...

There are enough laws alredy to deal with anyone who abuses paintball markers.

More than likely this is just another case of Children or young adults who don't realize the potental danger of what there doing. Its called "Critical Thinking" your actions have consequences.

Even if thies little criminals had there eyes poked out it won't bring back this young ladys vision...its the most precious thing we own besides our breath.

Probibly they wern't even paintball players, just kids out for kicks.

Eventually "YOU" will be caught, it would go easer on "YOU" if you turn your selves in and face the concequences.

This is why children (Under 18) aren't allowed to buy paintball markers and paint at venders who sell them. All young people should be ashamed of this type of behavior and get a grip on reality, Stop Doing Supid Things...

You paintball players in the area of Canada who live near this incident should band together and listen to the chatter at schools, playgrounds, game rooms ect. and get a line on thies kids who did this, they will talk and will be found out.
It would be great if the paintball community would band together and gather inetl. on who did this and turn them in if they don't turn them selves in...

Im rathre sure this wasn't regular paintballers...

All My Best

Is this in the South Carolina house of misrepresentatives?

SC used to regulate 1 handgun/month, now you can buy as many as you want, you just fill out another form per weapon. You can also purchase as many long guns in one sitting as you can afford. You have to pass the S.L.E.D. background check, but that is only a short phone call. If you have a conceiled weapons permit, they just take your CWP license number and you are out the door.

Anyway, I do not have a problem with requiring a background check or verification of age to buy a paintball gun. I think EVERYONE should have to take some kind of weapons course. This way when a crime happens like this one in Canada, no one can claim ignorance to what a 200 mph paintball can do. If the shooter/s are caught, they should carry the financial responsibity for the deficits that losing sight in one's eye can cause. Just my 2c's.

I believe it is in the works for the US House..

I don't have a big problem with it, as far as my personal use. I love paintball and will do what it takes to make sure that paintball is safe and fun for all. My problem is in the way that the bill is worded. (I will find it and post it as soon as I can...) It will classify ANY thing that can propel an object (projectile) forward as a handgun. This could mean nerf dart guns, spray paint cans, and yes, paintball guns.

I believe that paintball, when played with recommended/required safety rules observed, is one of the best sports out there. It only takes a few people NOT using paintball as a competitive sport on a field with proper equipment and rules to ruin it for those who are doing so. We have laws in place already to handle the miscreants that assaulted the woman in Canada, as I am sure that our northern friends do as well. Those people need to be tried for assault/attempted murder, or whatever the law there will allow. I just don't believe that we need to invent more laws everytime someone figures out a new way to assault someone. It just makes it one step more difficult for the honest players to continue playing. Of course, the law is for the lawless after all... so we are in a catch-22.

(o.k. I've rambled on enough... I'm going back to sleep now..)

We both know what kind of people are in the US House of Misrepresentatives. I would not doubt they would try to classify any projectile as a weapon, nerf or other wise.

I agree with "trial for assault with intent" then hang them in public.
