ATHENS (Reuters) - Greek police on Monday said they would fire paintball pellets containing different colours to identify any rioting fans during Wednesday's Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan.

Authorities have drawn up extensive security plans for the biggest soccer match of the season to avoid any clashes between English and Italian fans.

"The paintball guns will be one of the weapons the riot police will use in case of fan clashes," police spokesman Panagiotis Stathis told Reuters.

Paintball's don't really hurt enough to stop adrenaline-driven rioters. Also, yeah, they are sort of unsafe. What is wrong with good old-fashioned tear-gas?

Soccer fans are that fanitical, whats the differance of loosing you eye to rubber bullits, or CS gas canister, or paintball. Its still gone.

The difference is nothing, but it is less likely with a CS Canister... Hundreds of paintballs vs a couple of gas canisters.

Obviously never been around drunken englishmen during a soccer game. I had rather fight rattle snakes. And correct me if I am wrong don't police usually aim low when fireing any type of paintball/pain compliance device. This is not the first time they are/have been used. Rubber ball or paint ball.

Yeah, I knew there were risks with CS. I mean I am sure the cops are trained as well as they possibly can be. Its not like they give the guns to random "peace keepers." They would probably aim really low, and the risk would be lessened a bit. However; they still don't hurt enough to stop those crazy "futbol" fans! I don't think real bullets would stop them completely! (ok, they would... but they do go insane over their soccer!!!)
