A 12-year-old Henrico County Middle School student is being charged with using a computer to steal almost 20 thousand dollars from an Ohio-based company. Police say the 7th grader got the company's bank account number off the Internet. Police say he then used the number to pay off his father's credit card.
Authorities say the alleged fraud is somewhat complicated. The 12-year-old Tuckahoe Middle School student is charged with using his father's credit card to make purchases from Extreme Paintball in Ohio. Police say the 7th grader then used that company's bank account information to pay for the purchases. According to the paintball company, the boy took about 20 thousand dollars. He is charged with credit card theft, credit card fraud, and larceny.
Local investigators became involved in the case when they were contacted by Ohio authorities. Charges were filed late this Wednesday morning.
Investigator Jim Tetterton tells us the child's computer will be searched as part of their investigation into the alleged fraud. The 12-year-old is due in court in April when he will be arraigned on the charges filed today, and from there will get a trial date.
