I think Billy Smith has the ticket on "MOUTHY PLAYERS", espically the cussing part which has no place on the paintball field.
50pt penality for each infraction....AT BBB the Barzini family was only about 80 points off of the Tatigalia final score.
Why you say??? Because Red players didn't have enough sence to keep there nasty mouths shut. F... this and F... you....thats intollarable....uncalled for. Here in Fl. it is a crime to cuss around children...Fowl launguage has no place in any game much less paintball where "Children" are present...Cussing creates an air of antagnisim which complacates the Ref's duties as peace keeper and rule observers as well as safty directors...

While I certainly understand where SirRod is coming from I dont believe that a penalty per each infraction is even a remote possibility. I will also say that I support freedom of speech..I do agree that there are times when restraint should be utilized but in the heat of battle...well slip ups happen. I have a tendency to utilize choice words on occasion..lol... but I do my best around children..on another note..I do not smoke (period) or drink at these events..if we want to turn our events into role model scenarios for our children...lets do it right..no smoking, drinking, or curseing. Somehow I dont think that is gonna happen. Just my opinion.

Back on topic...I believe this topic has to do with unsportsmanlike mouthiness...which I agree should have a governing methodology on how to handle players.

I think this is exactly where this thread is intended to go and I can not wait for DMmasta' first rough draft.

took the words right outta my mouth... except for the words where you said you don't drink or smoke... haha... sadly, i do. but i for sure agree with your ideas and thoughts here.

i figure..
i think that an occasional slip isn't a big deal. i guess it really depends on the context. are you yelling,
"hey jack off i EFFING shot you in the EFFING face douchebag motherEFFER..."
or... "shit! i'm out."
thats apples and oranges. neither of which do i think is entirely appropriate around kids, but the latter of the 2 is at least understandeable. most who know me, and have played with me or my guys, know that we are honest and upstanding, but we do have a bit of potty mouth. most marines do. i would hate to lose a scenario because i let a little f bomb drop. you know?

I think a friendly potty mouth warning by a ref would help...

btw: you dont have to curse to be a really flagrant poor sport.

When reffing "poor sports", I personally have used the 3 strikes and you are banned from the field for life rule.

If you are caught cursing on a CFOA feild it is a one for one. You want to piss a team off let them go from 5 on the break to 3 about 20 seconds into the match then get off the feild and figure out it was because "little Joey" said a bad word.....You will probably sit the bench the rest of that day and a couple of more.

I would also like to add that the direction of the "verbal assault" counts as well. I think there's a big difference and penalties should be weighted amongst.
"Oh F***, I hot hit" (5 points after warning)
"Move your A**" (10 points after warning)
and
"F*** You Ref" (25 points no warning)

Freedom of speech doesn't apply here. It's private property. The owners of of the paintball field have a right to impose a standard of conduct.

Obviously, what is said and to whom is important but severity is always going to be subjective rather than objective. Normally, all but the most flagrant cursing can usually be handled with a subdle warning.

Obviously if someone is in another player's face and cursing him, that's a different situation all together and is bordering on assault. This situation should be handled much more decisively.

ive got a potty mouth, but i try and be aware of who is around me. i try and not to cuss in front of little kids, but i cuss alot. i am also really bad about taunting. i will talk all kinds of smack to the opposition. it usually never goes beyond a "oh c'mon. is that all you guys got?" or "you couldnt hit the broadside of a barn." i have never had a ref tell me to cool it down or punch me for it.
