9/11 - Fifth Anniversary
It is hard to believe tomorrow is the fifth Anniversary of 9/11. Seems like yesterday when it happened. I was working on the West Coast that week, was woken up by people back in the east and was told to turn the TV on. It was surreal, like watching a movie. Couldn't believe this was really happening. I was glued to the TV all day. I didn't know anyone that was killed that day, but my father knew someone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pEPWPiZnlI&NRHopefully, we can remember these Americans tomorrow, and our brave servicemen and women who are protecting this country so we can enjoy our lives and liberty. (best to turn your volume up) |

It's tough to watch. I remember I was getting a cup of coffee in the break room and there were already people gathered around the TV. I saw the second plane as it was happening and knew we were under attack.
I definitely won't forget the lives that were lost and the military personnel who have sacrificed for our freedom. I can't wait to see that peace of shit strung up on a pole somewhere... My two...

I woke up that day in Ft. Hood Texas. As I turned on the TV which I did not normally do, I saw the first tower with smoke comming out at the top and the news was replaying the first plane hitting. A few minutes later, the second one hit-my brother came down just in time to witness it live.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It, like y'all said, looked just like a movie. The Base I lived on completely shutted down not letting anyone in -just a hair below marshal law. We ended up housing officers who lived off post until things calmed down. Every where we looked we saw extremely low Apaches/Longbows, 50. caliber mounted Humvees, and armed soldiers at every check point not taking chances. I know I won't forget it

I was woke up at 3 AM just in time to watch the second plane impact on CNN. Although it is a tragedy and has had a dramatic impact on life world wide I never had the personal impact that many others have. To me it was much like watching the genecide in Rwanda or bombings in Indonesia (although I did have friends that were involved in that one).
My prayers go out to everyone impacted during and since 9/11. I hope we all take it a little more personal when we see things happen elsewhere in the world.

As an air traffic controller I found this article very interesting. I thought some others might like see a different side of 9/11.

I was on USS Boxer, returning to San Diego after a deployment. The CO came on the 1mc during breakfast, reporting that a plane had crashed into the wtc. I assumed it was just some dumb pilot in a small cessna. Then word started getting around, and the whole ship was logged onto the internet news sites. Just kept refreshing the page and watching the updates come in. Second plane, tower collapsing, second tower collapsing. Really couldn't believe it.
It was strange coming home to Threatcon Delta.
