Break beam eyes work with a transmitter and a receiver. They are not affected by the color of the paint. Reflective eyes bounce a beam off the paint to see if it is there or not. They are affected by paint, usually the darker it is, the harder time it has to detect it. I'd reccomend the break beam eyes, I have two guns with them installed, and they work great.

Bounce beam only has to be installed on one side, so its less drilling ect, but if you have big flat spots or such, you wouldnt be able to use bouncebeam. Breakbeam is better IMO.
