I use the JT cleats which are great. Even for the ocassional asphalt like at the MOUT games or the Bearclaw top road. The only thing I don't like are they are a little heavy for cleats. But great for the price.
Before them I wore Nike football cleats and they were great but not so much for the price. And they were a little irratating around the heel. I like boots, I wear them all the time outside of paintball. I never really liked them playing though because I get down real low and crouch alot, and it never gave me the ankle freedom I wanted. I have weirdly flexible ankles so with low-rise shoes I never worry about rolling them. |

I usually bring my Danner's (retail price $200 but free from Uncle Sammie), one pair of cleats, a pair of JT high tops, a pair of hiking boots, and a pair of boat shoes for the ride home. To me the most important thing is to make sure you have dry, broken in, comfortable footwear. This includes tons of wool socks.
I bring the different styles so I can adapt to the terrain. If it is flat I don't need as much ankle support. If it is wet and swampy I go for the boots. |

Like Chappy I use Bates "tactical" boots. They are lighter than my sneakers, good ankle support (bad ankles), they are not water proof but dry out easily while wearing, good tread that shake clay easily and I tried several pairs until I found the ones that fit best. I think the most important thing in good foot wear is to have them fit properly and where good cotton or wool socks. I prefer wool since it naturally wicks moisture away from the foot.
I tried cleats in the past and found they actually grip too well. Since I have bad ankles, if my feet grab too much traction I tend to roll my right ankle but the not too aggressive soles of my boots let my feet slip a little in turns and twists. |
