I would say a rail with Ul would be your best bet. and the feel of a UL frame just cant be beat. Now if you like the high end look for some DM7 I know you can get some dirt cheap on Nation. I have one and love it (tho i cant afford to shoot the paint for it :P)
Rails SUck and they are a HUGE GAS HOG. rail fanboys may disagree, but i couldnt shoot 6 pods and ahopper on a 68/45. and it sucked HUGE at fields were i could only get a 3k fill. LIke at Invasion of Normandy when their Air system went down and they where only filling to 3500.

Ion- Decent if you build the whole thing from the ground up
Rail- Gas HOG and TON of O-Rings
Mini - Small No ASA
Fusion - Awesome efficiency 7pods/hopper on a 45/45, had a problem with chopping paint in mine YMMV
Etek - Star Frame and everything its a good gun.
Ego - 07 with Zick and Cure bolt dont kick and are not extremely loud, they are freaking awesome.
Pm6/7- These are really nice much more eff then the PMR, Its like a DM PMR love child.
Timmy - Well not much to say they are bob long and good.
Shocker - Get one of these if you dont want to custom build an ion and have people make fun of you.

(watch now that i said that it will stop working) but as far as being reliable its been real reliable. ive shot 60 or so cases of paint through my pmr and havent had 1 issue or oring failure or a broken bolt.

You sir are one lucky person...I think everyone that has one on my team or the other ones that frequent the field closest to my house have had nothing but problems from theirs usually the first thing to go is the battery harness...My Trauma DM4 has been very reliable as well but still all of those o-rings just give me nightmares...lol

I'd suggest a proto matrix rail w/UL frame. It's what I'm running right now..so I'm a tad biased, but it's never let me down. It's as fast as anything, extremely simple to program(with the UL's board..never tried stock) fairly quiet, and accurate. I run mine with a Dye Ultralite Barrel, and it shoots darts. The only downside with this gun is the air efficiency. I run a DXS 68/45, and shoot about a hopper and four to six pods per game, so I'm getting air after every game. I think this might be due to dwell settings or something of that sort, as I haven't changed those particular settings since purchasing the gun. Good luck, and of any of the guns listed, your friend really isn't going wrong.

I have been running a mini now for a while, I love it! it is fast and feels great. I am an automag man so the mini is a real treat. Back in the days when the heavy old automag was top notch to now with technologies at work I am looking for light weight, shoots fast, RELIABLE, and easy to clean I shot around four cases of paint at WILDFIRE in Georgia and never broke a ball. The mini is easy to clean and maintain.

i think this just limits the size tank you can put on there. but then again with such a tiny marker you wouldnt want a huge tank on there
