Here's another thought. Go to the field with your camera for a month and take action pics. Post them on pbjunkie so we can see your work.
I will as soon as i get my telephoto lense. Without that its a lost cause. I haven't played for a month as it is.

Yes paintball does suck in all the ways that you posted, but those are far from covering all the points of paintball. I agree with the pump deal, it's something I plan on doing also.

Not that I know of. I see people taking pctures of their kids, and I've taken pictures with my old digicam once or twice, no one said anything. I know a ot of the refs at my field too, which helps.

Edit~The reason I'm waiting for the telephoto is so I can take pictures from afar without interfering with the game, and still get close up shots (920 mm total zoom).

1) Money pit. It consumes most (all) of my money. $90 on a case of paint that can never be used again. Resale value on paintball markers is horrible, so I know I will never get anything close to what I put into it (luckily shockers are one of the better guns as far as resale goes).

2) The rush I got the first few times seems to have disappeared. I don't get that natural "high" which a lot of people use as a reason.

3) I get extremely angry at people. I don't want to go out on the weekend and get all pissed off, that happens enough during the week.

4) Cheating is part of paintball. No matter what anyone says, cheating is accepted in this sport to a certain extent. I know going into a game that people are going to cheat, I expect them to. I don't mind cheating no one see's, because it takes skill believe it or not. People blatantly wiping and not getting called for it is rediculous though.

5) It seems like work. It gets old and boring playing at the same field all the time (yes there are a few fields around here but I can't drive, so I don't really have a choice).

Just something I was pondering...
I'll have been playing for 16 years come this NOVEMBER and I know how you feel. Over the years I've gotten sick of this and that, was not having fun anymore, found one year I spent >$2300 on gas alone just for paintball....etc. This is normal for this sport and all the others, do not worry, do not get rid of your equipment just take a break. I have an advantage over a lot of players I have wide interests. I'm and avid "Off-Roader", I play FPS/RTS games, camp/hike, restore/costumize trucks, build/Mod computers, build RC Cars/Planes, water ski/kneeboard, read novels/history books, draw, working on a Spec Miata to race and many other hobbies. I do not throw everthing I have in one thing. When I get tired/bored/sick of a hobby I back off it for awhile and concentrate on another something else then come back to it.

As to your points about the negatives of PB step back and compare to other hobbies.

Money Pit - Well its does not have to be as bad as yo think. In the last 12 years I've bought exactly 3 paintball guns. Automag, Sniper II and Phantom and have done very little to them after purchase. Paint can get expensive but does not have too I'll buy a case of paint and use it for 3 or 4 rec days or 1 scenario and this includes playing the occassional speedball game or two. Just because everyone else is spraying and praying does not mean you need to. If you think paintball is expensive do not ever try RC cars and Planes and definitely do not try building a race car (I'm down >$10,000 and not done).

The Rush - Well this goes away for awhile until you find a new challenge in your respective sport. I find sometimes I get it back through others, I like to occassionally to work with a small group of first timers "coaching" them during a game, I might not even take a gun on the field, and see the excitement in their eyes and hear it in there voices during an after the game. Sometimes though it just takes getting away for awhile and let the "batteries" recharge.

Getting Angry - This like the loss of the rush is just part of being "burned out" your anger level rises quickly and things bother you now that would not have before. Again my best advice is get away from it for a while or change where or who you play with. Only you know why you are getting angry and only you can decide how to change it. I does happen with other sports too and it is the reason I do not race RC cars anymore. I still build and play with them I just find I do not have it in me to compete anymore.

Cheating - I've listened to people complain about this since I started playing and it never changes. I think people look at "cheating" in paintball different then in other sports. Do people get all pissed off when someone travels in basketball and makes a shot or assist and never gets called for it? No, it might be commented on but thats about it. What about a Lineman who does not get caught for crossing the line of scrimage before the hike? No again it's not looked as cheating just a mistake or pushing to hard. If you have a competetive sport you are going to have players push the rules and try to get away with "things" it is the nature of sports in general. Is it right? NO but it happens do not let it get to you. Those who "cheat" regularly or intently do get caught and are penalized by the sport. I've seen many of cheaters come into PB over the years but few last long without getting stigmitized and most stop playing. Most PB players I've met over the years are honorable people and all of use have been seen as cheaters by other players whether we were or not. Leave dealing with cheaters to the judges and field owners, remember it is only a game.

It seems like work - When it gets like that you definitely are suffering from burnout, give it a break for awhile. When you come back do so because you feel a need to come back.

Sorry so long winded but I've seen many players over the years quite and sell there equipment and later come back and wish they never got rid their equipment. I hope this helps, let us know, you are family now! :smooch:

Definately don't sell your equipment. I had my first paintball gun sitting in a closet for about 12 years before I picked the game back up and got rolling again. I have gone through the entire evolution of what many players go through. I started out with some renegade ball with friends (that was pretty much all there was back then), then moved to recball, next was tournaments, then scenarios. During those times I went from a PG 10 shot with 12 grams to your latest and greatest hyped up electro who's a what's it and now have returned to the trusty Sniper 2 and, yep you guessed it, the PG that I started with. The challenge of taking a 10 shot bolt action pistol against all these paint slingers is a new rush.
Of course the best part of paintball to me is the Friday night before a scenario and the Sunday afternoon after the scenario. Seeing old friends over some refreshments, telling old lies, and making up new ones. That is the reason paintball was invented.
