An observation

I'm just wondering if its just me, but I am seeing a distinct increase in the arguing, snide comments, and just general drama on PB junkie. Unless I'm mistaken this forum is intended as a tool for fellowship between paintball players/enthusiasts. Over the last few months there has been alot of flaming, and ALOT of the speedball VS Woodsball mentality. When I first joined this forum I noticed right away that this forum was different from the majority of the paintball forums out there, because there weren't alot of clique's, and there didn't seem to be alot of I'm better than you mentality. Since most everyone on here is from the same general geographic area, we actually get to play together, and get to know each other a little better than say PBnation, or most others for that matter. Now recently it seems like alot of people would rather argue, or talk crap to one another.

Personally I wish we could cut out some of the crap, and get back to the main focus of why we are all here PAINTBALL. This forum used to be for sharing of inforamtion and ideas not insults and name calling. I think we should remember the main focus of why we are all on here PAINTBALL. So how about we leave the big ego at home and just play? OK well I'll get off my soap box now just had to comment on my observation.

I haven't really noticed much. Maybe I log on too late and it has been deleted but I don't see any thing other than mild disagreements. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

Excellent points. There has been a lot more traffic on PBjunkie lately and believe it or not the staff has been monitoring, deleting posts and banning the folks who don't follow the rules.

I don't like to step in on a heated debate over a topic and I feel that the recent threads I have closed have been closed at the right time. I have even went as far as sending a few PM's to the constant contributors to those threads asking if things in the thread are getting out of hand and the result was no replies back so I assume things were still heated and not flamed.

The main focus on this forum is paintball but there is always going to be heated debate over the different types of the game, markers and technology.

Let me know via PM if there is something more the staff can do that in your eyes we are not doing.

Sneaky I agree, I have watched exactly where it has all been coming from, and in my opinion i think junkie will have the problem rectified quickly.

Junkie I hope you didn't take my posts to mean that you or any of the staff aren't keeping on top of things..that's the farthest thing from what I meant. What I was trying to say is there are certain groups out there that appear to enjoy causing controversy, and it should be up to us to police ourselves. Not saying it's a huge problem, or it's gotten out of hand I have stayed clear of 90% of it. I was simply saying it has increased noticeably in the past few months.

i agree with sneaky. i have to admit i argued to argue on one post and was corrected. i'm on here to share info and meet new friends and fellow PBJunkies. this is one of the best forums i've ever posted on and i'd like it to stay that way. Junkie, you and your team are doing a great job with the site. keep it up. we all appreciate your hard work and dedication to the sport. But i haven't really noticed much actual flaming, direct rude comments, etc.

my setup is better than yours......i hope.....

You wouldn't believe some of the things that have been deleted. There are some people out there that obviously don't have any decorum or social skills. Like Junkie said, if anyone on the site sees something they feel is inappropriate, classless, or just plain uncalled for let us know.

In a way it is funny this came up since I was just talking about this very same observation to my wife today. I started wondering about this very topic about a week ago and the last few nights started looking around and comparing current and older posts, user ID's, and sub forums. Though I did not find anything earth shattering there did to seem to be some issues to watch based on some users, sensitive subjects and sub forums. I have not made an issue of passing on this "data" to my fellow moderators yet since this information if very new and subjective. I will say this that there are minority of some the same user ids out there that seem to be involved in a majority of the "Heated" or "Antagonistic" posts.

When Junkie first started this forum we talked a lot about how it should be moderated. The idea was for us as moderators to try and keep out the intentionally antagonistic, hateful, cursing, pornographic and general disrespectful post out of the forum. All of that plus the need for us moderators to stay as unbiased as possible and allow debates/discussions to take their natural course. I think this is one of the things that makes PBJUNKIE so enjoyable to come to but there is an "recent" element that is pushing and will find out we are willing to push them out if need as witnessed by Junkie's banning.

I know I do not do as much contributing and moderating as I used to, this is do to things that have changed in my life that make it difficult. That has started to change now and I'll have more prescence and carrying more of the moderator load. Some of you may be recieving PMs telling you to "chill out" or else because here if you are not responsible, respective and courteous we do not want you or need you. Do not get me wrong we have the right and need to disagree on topics and discussion is one great way to get things out in the air but you do have the responsibility to be respectful and couteous to each other and their views.

I too will get off my SOAP BOX

I originally joined for the 2004 Free Finale smack forum. Junkie and Grendel et al where some of my favorite teasing posters. Good stuff but not over anything substantive. Later they came looking for me at the game. Boy was that fun.

Censorship is good. Your board, enforce your rules. I did agree to abide by them and if I don't send me to the bit bucket.

Manners are good. This forum is for the sport I believe. It should never be the sport.

Respect is good. If someone is an ass on the forum, not sure I have high expectations of them on the field.

How can we grow the sport from the unwashed rabble that lands upon this shore. Invite them to play and follow this rule: play more than you post. The sport will mature you or the refs will throw you out. Here or there.

Interglacials are short and then we enter the nasty brutishness of the glacial periods.
