Angry Rich Telford's marijuana article in Facefull...

I found this post today from some guy named brokenleg. I can't verify this is true because I don't have the mag but I thought it worthy of conversation:

"I just picked up the Nov/Dec issue of Facefull and saw Mr. Telford's article titled "Stay Off the Grass".

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, Telford basically spends two pages ranting about how smoking marijuana makes you a bad player.
I personally think this guy is insane, but I also wanted to see what you people thought. Not to say that smoking some weed recreationally won't slow you down a bit, but i just think that this guy went a little too far into the "overzealous lunacy" end of the arguement...

For example, he writes that smokeing marijuana might cause someone to come up with "insane game plans that could only work in their own little world where they have secret force fields"... and it goes on like that...

He just piles up all these stereotypes and crazy bits of propaganda noting at one point in some painfully forced slang that "pot heads like to keep the smoking of the chronic on the DL".

I don't, and apparently I'm not alone judging by how much people like those rasta Flys... I'm not suggesting that anyone should ever smoke while they are playing, but when they get home after a long day of playing... they might want to smoke a joint ... or two..."

I'm curious to know if you think this belongs in paintball magazines and or just your thoughts on this topic?

I disagree, it does belong in "High Times."

smoking is only ok if the smoker is in his home where he will be un movated to do much of any thing, the point is don't smoke in public because it effect the smoker's jugdment, and it should be used in moderation not consantly like most smokers do.

I'm a police officer and to be honest I don't give a crap what someone does in the privacy of their own home as long as it doesn't affect other people. Sure a little weed used recreationally isn't anymore harmful than alcohol, but half the time it doesn't stay recreational. One big stance for people to be against marijuana is the fact that it is illegal. I don't care if you smoke it and it doesn't affect me, but it's still against the law. Two, as you've heard, it's a gateway drug. Marijuana nowadays isn't like it used to be back in the 60's and contains a higher THC percentage than it used to. You don't even see Hash Oil anymore because the THC in some good weed is so high, it'd be pointless to waste time and money on Hash Oil. Also when you buy marijuana, it's not always just marijuana. Much of the marijuana sold out there is laced with PCP and other drugs. The first high is always the best and people want to relive that first high so they start smoking more and more and stronger stuff. Soon that strong stuff isn't strong enough, which is when they move to other drugs (ie. meth). Finally, smoking dope will make you stupid. I've seen long time pot smokers and they're dumb ass hell. Just like alcohol kills your liver if you drink too much, if you smoke too much weed you'll kill your brain cells.

Back to the question at hand: Does marijuana make you any worse of a paintball player? Yes it does for the simple fact that you're contaminating your lungs with smoke, mind with THC, and body with something that's not supposed to be there. Then again you make yourself a less effective player everytime you eat that 1200 calorie double quarter pounder with cheese with a large coke (400 calories) and large fries (500 calories). You don't have to be healthy and fit to be a good paintball player, but it helps. If you can run just a little bit faster, dive a little bit further, play a little bit long, or even be just a little bit smaller you can be a better player. Sure marijuana may not be the worse thing you can do (the McDonalds we all eat is probably the worse), but it's still not good. Does it belong in a paintball magazine? Sure it does. I've seen exercise tips, health tips, and dietary tips in magazines so why not an anti-drug article.
