tired of scenarios
I want you opinions on something, is it me or does it seem these games are starting to get to much pretend not enough play?
Would you rather play a woods ball game or scenario and do you think the scenarios are getting a little out there. We have based games on all things imaginable, why can't we have have a big game that is based on one team just playing harder than the other. I am not talking about producers or certain venues so lets not get a grudge match started that any one is better than the other, this is just about formats. Seems a lot of people at scenario games have no idea what the missions are or what the characters are. What ever happened to a good woods ball game with general kills and hostage taking? Bring back the skill level to the game we all played pretend when we were kids. Thoughts on this? and remember this thread is not about who is the better producer, and what your favorite field didn't do. I am just curious of your thoughts of possibly a hybrid game. Question is also, do you think the scenario card has been beat to death ?

No not really. I do think you can go overboard with a ton of special rolls & so on. I do like having missions to run. I do like the demos & things like that. I dont like having a player with a axe running around who cant be killed, but can take out bunkers & player with his "mighty axe of fury". I think thats why a lot of us stick to a few promoters we like for the base of the games we play each year. Not saying we dont try new places or ways, just that we have the ones we know we are going to with out question.

I enjoy the historical battle based scenarios. I like the missions, night games, role playing when available. I don't care all that much for some of the "Fantasy" games, for the same reasons as stated by Camojester.

Either the historical mil-sim or more modern tactical operations, (NOT to be confused with the SPPL format tactical...), like counter-terrorism, etc. will work for me. |

and i would love to see more modern combat games based on factual elements and a feasible plot.

I think the scenarios are fine..but I agree that there can be too much emphasis on "role playing" in some of the fantasy ones. I also agreee that the Historical based scenarios are more fun. I do not agree that the missions that include take/hold "point X" are a bad thing..points need to be earned somehow and directive based missions are the biggest part of them. This is easier to include in the Historical events..
I think that there is a place for every type of team in these scenarios. My team for instance is generally just creating havoc for the opposing side while a variety of others complete missions and earn valuable points.

i couldn't care less if its a game based on ww2, drug lords or elves and goblins. i don't give a crizzap about the theme. i run missions when missions concur with my style of play, and unless its an XO roll, i don't do special roles. i just show up for the sheer joy of shooting people, and getting shot by people... nothing more.
