Something to think about when you go to Vote..

Now, universal health care is all good in theory, but who is paying for it? Why should i have to pay for someone else's retirement benefits? health care? Or inability to use birth control after their 5th child.

This is what is wrong with this country sometime after the 60s, we switched from a nation of hard workers to a nation of someone do something for me. I came from sub middle class. My grand parents filed bankruptcy and moved to DEEP rural Louisiana "if you haven't had to eat Nutria you are blessed." My Grandfather would have sent my grand mother to work before trying to collect a NICKEL from the government for welfare unemployment or ANYTHING. Same with my Mom, My dad had the opposite raising, somebody OWED HIM something. Which had a lot to do with my parents parting ways.

I have always been raised that if i wanted something, NOBODY was going to give it to me. It was up to me alone to bust my ass to attain it. Nobody paid for my College, Nobody bought my first car, nobody pays for me to play paintball.

When i got laid off in 2000 and was out of work for a month, I DID NOT get Unemployment You know what i got? I GOT A JOB that could sustain me until a job that my skillset was capable of. You know how long it took? 2.5 years. I suffered in retail, yet i didnt force any other fellow American to give me any money.

And yet, Ill give you an example of someone i know we will call him Jim. Jim has a HIGH end blue collar job, makes just over 6 figures. Lives in a 375,000 house. Jim told me about 2 weeks ago he just completed a purchase of his 2nd investment property in the Virgin Islands, the 1st one he bought about 2 years ago. Over lunch one day i am bitching about the mis-use of WIC and Welfare he got a little heated and started arguing how great these programs are for needy people. I am trying to explain i am fine for needy people but when women roll in with an Escalade on 24s and a 6k Gucci handbag they do not need government assistance and he drops this bombshell on me. Until about 2 months ago, he was getting welfare, food stamps and Wic.

I swear to god my brain blue screened. Here is a man who's wife doesn't work has 5 kids and has a mildly disabled brother in law that lives with them. Did i mention that his Tax Burden is Negative? he actually doesn't pay taxes because of this? Not only that he has money to buy investment property in another country?

There are some people that just don't get it. There is UNLIMITED opportunity in this country to advance your station in life, YOU are the only person that can do anything about it.

Ok enough of my Rant, please let me know how you feel about the above comment and if you are Dem/republican/Independent.

question : what exactly does our government do well?

and why on earth would we assume it could manage universal anything?

I'm voting for the guys who seem to think smaller government is better government - and I'm at a loss who that is,...but at least the bigger government advocates are obvious. I hate voting for the lesser of the evils, but here we go again.

I personally have always voted for the person that I felt would benefit me the most. Being in the military throughout the 90's I have always voeted Republican. My thoughts being that Republicans typically believe in giving big business and the military more money. I may be short sited, but I vote how I vote. Last year a friend of mine, who has always been a staunch Democrat called me laughing. He knew I voted Democrat for the first time in my life without ever talking to me. Once again it was me voting for who would benefit me the most.
Our government now is VERY anti union. Being in a union for the first time in my life I am feeling the effects of the government. I did vote Democrat and have been an Obama suporter since before he announced his running for President. I have never been one to tell people how to vote, but if anyone is curious why I have changed from being a staunch Repulbican to now supporting the Democratic part send me a PM. I would love to give you information on what the current administration has done to alienate its strongest supporters. Well, maybe not the strongest, as there are other that are currently benefitting more than ever, but to go into that would be me trying to sway other people's opinions.

I would classify myself as a conservative -- and I don't have a clue what the republicans are up to lately.

Food for throught as we step closer to election day..

quote was from Alexander Fraser Tytler's book "The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic":

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

Just post it? why do people have to pm you to share your opinion? For example of what Unions do for people. Lets look at the unemployment rate of Michigan....

Robin Hood Politics IS NOT something i will vote for.
