up to you to decide
Sent to me by email. I am sure many of you have seen or heard of something like this. I already boycott Exxon gas stations. Did you know they never paid a dime for the Exxon Valdez oil spill and have reported RECORD earnings!
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it ight go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town.[it's 3.19 here in the Ozarks] Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace...not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this t o 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you ! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Brain, I am with you on this already, I don't buy from EXXON or MOBIL, those guys are usually more than other sources. I want to also suggest CITGO as another company to boycott; I particuarly don't like supporting that jerk Hugo Chavez.

1st god it hurts me to know that people do not know enough about world economics or watch the news enough to keep believing that email.
Quote:
There is NOTHING out of line about Exxons Profit, They are at 10% net profit over revenue which is average for any business sector except for banking for which that would be low. 10%? do you get that? so if they made a 40.6 billion dollar profit, their total revenue was over 400 million. They are either the 1st or second largest corporation in the world. You want to complain about gouging? call your Bank, and complain about $40 over draft fee, a $35 late fee. 20%+ interest rates on cards. The gas Problem WILL NOT Correct itself until we hit $6-7/Gallon. And it will force people to think about how they drive their Cars. At $5/Gallon both me and my wife will switch to work from home and most likely selling a car. If our employeers are thick headed, we are just going to find a new job. Reality? My family is already preparing for $5-$6-$7/Gallon Gasoline. The reason Gas is so high in order of importance. 1. Oil Speculators 2. Consumption 3. Opec 4. Environmental concerns *refineries and or drilling in certain areas* 5. World Economic growth. 38. ZOMG theiving OIL COMPANIES BTW, Exxon Paid 30 billion dollars in taxes.. 30,000,000,000 Quote:

This is not new news. For those of us that started driving in the late 70's or so, remember the oil embargo? OMG gas jumped from 27 cents to 60 or 70 cents/gal and folks were livid. Well, I have NEVER, let me repeat NEVER, bought gas from Shell, Mobil, nor Exxon...EVER!!! and I won't let my wife or kids use'em either. I know many of my contemporaries that can say the same. So who's buying from them? Company fleets? Who? Like Grumpy said they are usually slightly higher than competitors, so just WHO is making these guys rich? Maybe folks that still use gas cards? I give up......

brain, the hole in your theory is that exxon-mobile is 1 company and they produce almost allgas in the us. the simply have different formulas for each brand that is out. the gun club that i am a member of here in baton rouge, la has many exxon-mobile exec's as members and they have enlightened me as to many things about the industy that i was more than a little unaware of.
the bottomlineaccordingto them is supply and demand. and as long as we as a nation need it as much as we do the price is not coming down any time soon. hybrids and alt fuelsources are the onlyway to impact the demand and thus pricing
