my free flow.. how low I can go..

greetings... So Bear has been yapping about wanting a RF Free Flow to pumper'ize - I think he is still mezmorized by Bam's sneaky business at Blanding and wants to be like the 'Buski... We he can dream cant he..

Im browsing around another forum, and snag a pink RF 99 Fulcrum Free Flow
w/ Free Flow valve and hammer
Maddman green main spring -- silver front spring (feels like greenyish - I suspect stock free flow)
Shocktech stainless IVG, cocking rod, Super Fly bolt, roller sear (cool - always wanted one)
Benchmark frame w/ nice slider plate (i suspect Shocktech plate)
Smart Parts Max Flow vertical reg (which seems solid from initial tests - but maxs out at 300)

and some cheese doodle bottom line rig..
and a busted up Vendetta Delux kit

The whole package came covered in camo paint which I just stripped.

The SN says 68,000ish which puts this marker right at 1999.

------------------------------------------------------------

Im wanting to play w/ seeing how low I can go... one for the 'Buski !! (Coz gets no respect... lol)

suggestions?

Thumper my Green Sniper had Free Flow internals when I had it running pretty reliably at 185 psi but got squirrelly when I tried to take it down to 175 psi. The Green Sniper is built on a 2K+ stock body so I would think a Free Flow body should be able to go at least that low. I'd still be running those internals if I had not developed a valve leak and accidentlly damaged the body of the valve while I had it out . That's when I went to a Rat Valve and really could not gut the super low pressures to work right and switched to about 275 psi.

Got pictures of this Free Flow? I've been keeping my eye out for a Free Flow Millinium in RF for some time now.

no pics yet -- there is a party planned over at chappy's tonight (i think) kyle is bringing "The Comdemded" for his 65" plasma / FROG man cave -- pizza and pbtalk -- holler if game...

I pulled the ccm pump and At'ed 86 deg frame off the S5 and updated the frowflow -- dropped in one of my '99 supercharger bolts -- pollished up the hammer and lug (to death) and oh, my... puts the S5 to shame in pump'ability.... approaching S6 action.

(tech note: Im liking the idea of the supercharger bolt over superfly... supercharger tightens up some slop in the super fly, and has the elongated inlet hole -- cool for AT since the valve chamber and bolt need a bit of "play" when AT'ing... Ive never seen a CCM bolt... I wonder is they do the same thing w/ elongated bolt inlet hole.)

Ive got an uber light front spring and maddman green back
and 300 psi (maxed) on the Max Flow reg. (those things have like zero recharge time -- puts my stabs to shame in the recharge category.)

Vendetta/CCM '99 front guide rod mount - undrilled.

The free flow has a 99 valve chamber -- likely have to drill guide rod to compensate for LP... starting w/ 0.151"x1.5" plans

gonna start messing w/ velocity soon. Its low or over-pressured right now -- soft little "PAP" w/ zero IVG tension.

w/ reg at 300psi -- maddman green & ivg back : 175fps

dropped reg pressure, velocity dropped also : i.e, not over pressurized.

w/ reg at 300psi -- maddman red & ivg back : 205fps
side effect : farting w/ not holding handle.
side effect : pump stroke heavier (ok, but not desirable)

planned techniques to get velocity up:
1) maddman blue main spring, test and record (cause I no like farting/hammer bounce)
2) add expansion knuckle above reg (see see how good the free flows valves really are) -- test and record.
3) drill 99 guide rod (cause I dont have a sidewinder) and I think regg'ed air behind valve is better than regg'ed air in reg.

1) reg at 300, maddman blue main spring and .680 cocker sizer: 190fps
2) add expansion knuckle above reg: 200fps

conclusion : not enough air is getting through the asa to make much of a difference.

(ps: adding the expansion knuckle amounted to the same concept as swapping out the max flow for a side winder. the expansion knuckle provided 1/2" x 1.5" of additional regg'ed air and brought the velocity up by 10fps.)

Im still getting a bit of hammer bounce.

(technote : hey G : when holding the pump handle the velocity is higher w/ reballs. This supports the deformation = drag theory since reballs dont deform.)

John, you might want to try a heavier hammer that will give you a little more dwell on how long the valve is open giving more volume of air out the bolt. I'd try that with the green spring first. When I had mine Green Sniper down to 185psi I needed to use a heavy (tungsten) hammer. I still have the tungsten hammer and a brass one with SS face that is not quite as heavy as the tungsten but does not have the downsides of using sintered tungsten (wear of your lower tube). In one of my boxes I have several hammers in different bags all marked with their weight in grams for use in setting up super low pressures.

You could also drill out the body to 2K+ specs. I believe Casey has the right drill and tap . That would be a very clean way to alleviate the volume issue and it is easier to get 2K+ kits.

Thump. i overheard Brad talkin to you today and he him mention sidewinders and volume. if by happenstance you stumble upon a cheap short sidewinder, but want a long for the extra volume, pick up the shorty and ill gladly trade you an extra long attachment i have. that way every1 is happy
