4 guys..
Thats like at least 4 guys who own (or have owned) both and prefer the Sniper.
Dead eye, Grendel, Eric and me. -- even though Gman hasnt voted here -- I think Grandel may like his phantom for speedball tourneys, but I know he leaves it at home when the day calls for a romp in the woods.. Is there anyone here who owned both and prefers the phantom? ![]() Last edited by thumper; 01-06-2006 at 06:38 AM. |

I have both also and right now I prefer the sniper but I have spent a lot more time, money and effort making it exactly how I like it. I have just started working on the phantom so I'll have to see how it feels after I've put the same amount of effort into it, but for now I voted Sniper.

To add to Thumper's post, I owned a VSC phantom for over a year. I try to give any gun a good chance before deciding whether it is for me or not. I just didn't care for the feel of the phantom, but I will say that out of the box it is a better gun than a Sniper II. I wouldn't even want to figure out how much money I have in my Sniper II, but it is the best gun I have ever owned. It weighs a good fifteen pounds loaded and will lengthen your arm if you aren't used to it, but that is how I like it. My recommendation is to try both and decided for yourself. |

Anyway back to the original question. This is based on opinion, the only way is by trying both of them out. The first time i used my VSC phantom in November 2004 scenerio game at Paintball of Charleston, I fell in love with it. It has a smooth pump stroke and is ultra light. versitle and reliable (like most pumps). Truly is field stripable (i have taken apart my phantom once during a game...lets just say that was interesting). Switch from the stock class body to the DF/RF/LF feed in less than a minute. Overall its comfortable for me. Basically you have to go out and try both to make a decsion. You might even want a pmag

This is pretty hard for me. In the early days I moved from a Sheridan (PMI Piranha Long Barrel) to a Unibody Phantom with a whaler loader and an AGD Sixpack. This was my prefered gun and setup.
The Phantom and setup gave great accuracy and firepower when needed (Phantoms have auto-triggers). The fit and finish provided by CCI is superb and Phantoms were and still are very reasonably priced. So you get a good bang for your buck. Then I went to the DARKSIDE and played primarily with Semis mostly my Automag and when I started picking up pumps again the Phantom felt awkward to me so I shifted to the Sniper mainly for something different. The downsides to a Phantom are the overbarrel pump (not my favored position) and the lightness of the gun. A stock phantom is very light and is hard to hold on target if you also play with heavier guns (Mag/Cocker///etc.) So to make the transition between a heavy gun to light gun and back can be a little tricky. Snipers are a little more finicky in setup than a phantom and less efficient on air. That is why you see more Stock Class Phantoms then Snipers. I like the heavier weight of the Sniper and the undercocking pump. My main gun currently is a Sniper but I have great respect and still own and use Phantoms and Line SI Bushmasters (an old school nelson gun similar to a Phantom). Like others said hear you need to try the guns you are considering and find out what is most comfortable for YOU to use. A paintball gun is a tool you use to eliminate opponents that is it. So you need to find the tool you are most comfortable with using to eliminate your opponents that is it. If you are comfortable with using a Brass Eagle Tigershark then us that, the tool only complements the player. If youi do not get a good match in your tool selection then you are going to be less effective. Ask to borrow for a couple of games different guns and different setups and see which gun/setup to take to with the least amount of difficulty and that is most likely a good choice for you. |
