I know that most of the pump players around the upstate are older guys that have gotten out of tournaments because they can't keep up athletically anymore. We have been talking to Paintball Central for about a year now to get something going with them. Can I say that no one will cheat? No I can't but at the same time I have played with and against all the guys in this area and I can say that very few would feel the need to cheat. They are all great competition and are ver competitve. That is why we started the pump tournaments up here. I know from this area there are 7-10 right now that will be there. Can I say that no one will cheat? No I can't....

We in the upstate have been growing pump for about 2 years now. It started with two or three of us and everyone looking at us like we were funny or something. Now there is atleast 30 pump players just in the upstate, thats not counting the extras we have added in western north carolina and that area.

It is a little dis-heartening to see this type of thread going. To me any type of pump play is a plus. I have worked very hard to get this going for the players.

Understood -- I had this discussion going on behind closed doors but once it was in the open on pbj, it was best to walk it through. Sounds like we are on the same page Tig - good work in the upstate on spreading the pump love. Looks like PBCharleston has a large pump community, as does my neck of the woods.

Anything I can do to help, just holler.

The pump revolution is alive, well..... and growing.

What to do about it? -- Perhaps we police our own, and all work to set personal examples - and maybe others will follow suit (Good words by nix).

Looking to the future - I wonder how Hawaii and California pump tourneys are doing sportsmanship-wise?
Im going to ask you to please not blow this risk out of proportion. This is paintball and there is the same amount of risk of somebody cheating in a scenario game as there is this, so i dont think we need to worry about it. And like Tig reinforced, the pump community is so small around here, being labeled a cheater in the community would really hurt the player, so there's no incentive to. Personally, i think that "what you do about it" is keep the pump community tight and keep a positive attitude about it.

Also, imo, cheating in pump play is going to be EXTREMELY hard to do because there is hardly any paint on the bunkers to consitute as rub, and because of the lack of paint in the actual air the referees will probably not mind as much to actually get in and check a player.

agreed -- but it is doubling each year at this rate. guide the growth, set examples to follow - or deal with it later. that was the whole point.

i agree..and as a pirate thumper can vouch we all made a little fun of pumpers still had respect but cracked lots of jokes but now as i see it, i find it cheaper and i hope it will still be as much if not more of a rush/challenge than faster play...and i am slowly getting a few other pirates into it as well i hope...but none the less i do see it as growing...hopefully to a full statewide/regional tourney series instead of just at PBC...

the current path it's on, if this 3 man season works well and we have another one, then the next one could possibly include a 5 man division. if that works well, you might want to look to the cfoa for another division possibly.

that i think would be absolutely amazing for the pump world around here...so many more would sign on for the widespread tourneys over just in one park...

it doent help that everyone quit pump, and plays semi now either, anyways .. im sitting back and waitng for the day pump in socal gets legit again.

Ill be playing all the up coming hsp osc's so yeah im keeping it alive

heres the deal the original pump teams have gotten ..older and many are hanging up their sc harness's to get married or go on with life
many are either playing for fun now or have all jumped onto the few remaining teams left. drama between teams and certain events have pretty much killed our chance for pump to be in the spotlight. anyone who was at the last NSA knows what im talking about. Im not to start a flame war but lets just say the people trying to "promote" the pump scene really need to look back on the old ways of pump play, honesty and fun.

some problems:
-tourney officals that play for a team that is competeing in the tourney.
- rule changes during the tourney
- players reffing ( from teams who sat out the tourney) on payroll
-bias calls
-obvious bad calls by ref staff that effect final standings
- making rules that are obviously bias aginst certain teams
like... a team cant purposly lose a game on the field to boost a sister teams score, or both teams are DQ'd

now doenst that sound just dumb.. first of all who are they to decide weather a game was lost on purpose or not and if a team wants to lose they cant tell them that they cant lose a game. it almost killed it for me i almost went back to semi, because of it.

listen to this one: a capitans meeting is held to go over rules, but then during the tourney if a rule want to be changed the team capts vote for weather they will allow it (majority rules)...now can you see any problems with that?? clearly a rules are in affect but all of a sudden a majority of team votes can change the rule??.. not fair for the remaining teams opossed to the change, now is it?

I just hope the socal seen doesnt die out, because its looking like it.

as for the original question... yes it is more widely accepted, i but i never knew it wasnt accepted
So apperently the So Cal scene has completely imploded, however there is some good news from the region as talk of team BlowFish and Flipped out are going to attempt to make a come back.

In short- the lesson learned was that we need to keep our priorities in check and try to keep things centered around the "old ways of pump play, honesty and fun."

I play tourney ball. I don't cheat on purpose. I'll admit I have cheated but it's not a regular thing. As for the adaptation from semi to pumps, that was easier for me to do than my tippman to my ion.
