But seriously, I never approach the flag if I don’t have any support from my team.

first you have to know your surroundings. then see about how many people are around you. look ahead do you see people moving up towards you. then go get the flag knowing where people are. i would not always grab the flag unless you have heavy fire power. that is just the basics

Run screaming like a Banshee toward the flag firing wildly, grab the flag, dance a jig and then run back out. They'll be so shocked by your behavoir and laughing their butts off so hard that they will never get a good shot off at you. Now warning that only works with people who've played before if you are facing a newbie with a rental gun, who has never played before, you'll scare the crap out of him and he'll light you up from head to toe while cowering behind a stump.

I have found that if you have a couple of people to work with you then have them flank the other team while you are keeping their attention. Then your partners can shoot them from behind while they are worried about you getting the flag. If you are all alone you can always try grabbing the flag on the run and just keep going up the middle. Who knows, if you are as fast as me then you can just keep running. Nobody will ever be able to lead you by little enough to actually hit you......No that wasn't a typo.

lord knows that we have all tried that, but sometimes the other team doesnt get flanked. yeah that is always the first idea.

Diversions are good. Try being one of the guys shooting cover for another guy grabbing the flag.

i think being one of the leaders leading the attack is the best. you can control the surroundings.

On the few occasions That I've grabbed the flag, I found it usefull to run back to my own side, and group up with other teammates for a strong push. NOTE: Make sure your teammates know you are running back. Otherwise it could get painfull....
