Exclamation From Leyte: How should this be handled?

This is coming from the Leyte game:

Note to just get off on the right foot: After the game & after loading my stuff up, my kid & I were thirsty & hungry while we waited for the after-action report. I asked around & was pointed in the direction of the small buildings to the left of the proshop at PBC. There I found a really nice guy packing his stuff up-- but readily stopped to sell us a drink & snack. So I get into a conversation with the guy & happen to mention to him that the reffing was the best I'd seen. Needless to say, I was happy to hear Ben say the same thing maybe 20 minutes later. Now on to my main thing here.....

I wasn't going to say anything, because the game was so good I hated to insert even a small amount of negative, but since some people have already went and said the reffing was bad-- which I found to be a complete surprise that anyone would have a problem with the reffing at that game.

So twice during this game I heard people threaten physical violence because they thought they'd been overshot. For argment's sake, let's say to one extent or another, they had been. However, in both cases, the complainfing person did not have a barrel condom on & their barrel up--nor were they screaming "OUT!". In one case, the person actually turned around and started toward the opposing player.

Now here's where the refs shined--they kept their cool, didn't escalate the situation with any thing they said and everything cooled down. I can not high light that enough. Often in paintball, whether on the field or in a forum, things get escalated and the argumment realy becomes about trying to come off as the big man, as if one's manhood is on the line. Still I was left wondering--Loud physical threats, people wondering if there was going to be a fight, the game & fun interupted. Seems to me this is too much to just let pass. What you have in these cases is someone who wants to be feared--afterall, they are coming back. On the other hand, not letting it pass could be just the thing to push a loose cannon over the edge & the fight will be on. Still, such a player could be followed back to base by a ref--or all action could be stopped while the player is escorted to his car or to get his card punched.

Now I'm sure there's a rule somewhere--for example there's a no physical contact rule--but this involves verbal threats.

What say ye?

Ace that is a dilema that has existed for a while whether it is Recball, Scenario, or Tourney and there is really no good "one size fits all" rule or tradition. As you stated in your question one solution is a good unbiased ref or refs jumping in and defusing the situation. That is good if there is a ref there but like your example in scenario ball there are a lot of opportunity for this to happen without supervision of a ref and things can quickly escalate.

As a player I ignore threats given by others given that it does not become toe to toe. I will willingly plug my gun and walk off "eliminated" to help diffuse the situation. This is a game and I get to come back in somewhere else at next insertion anyway so no skin off my back. If I get the chance to talk to someone off this other persons team I try to encourge them to calm them down and if I can I'll try and clear the air OFF THE FIELD. If this is not an option I'll call for a ref to step in if I can.

Verbal abuse or threats should not be tolerated but almost impossible to enforce. Even if it is brought to the attention to the refs, promoter, field...etc. it will be after the fact a "he said she said issue". Controlling this is going to come down really to the players themselves. Other players in the area should help to calm down irrate players and diffuse the situation and turn the problem over to the refs if it can not be completely diffused.

yeah, I've been over shot at most 6-7 times befor. I think it is mmore of a testament to a man if he can walk off the field and be an adult about it. In my case when the guy came off, he was nice enough to ask me if he had over shot me, I told him yes, and we kinda laughed about it. What's more important...the little pain or the show of imaturity?

I witnessed several instances of overshooting, and got lit up several times. I yelled at someone asking if it was absolutely necessary to shoot that many times... I may have thrown in another choice word at the time too...(shame on me). Tempers should be controlled (that includes me), but if there are no refs around, I think the shooter should be made aware of what they did. Otherwise there is no opportunity to correct it.

Every times I pick up a marker I am "overshot"...possibly during a few ambushes, I was hit atleast 7 times with 5 breaks.

-after your dead, go see the guy, and say good hit, and mention the extra ballage.

This is how you make friends and bury the seed of safety in those players

The players with the electros are the one's that are prone to let 15 bps rip until they see hands...the same is true for RT's. It's not something to blaim, you have to watch out for the guys that don't check themselves by doing just that .

ITs a strange area, but I guess that it is tough love LOL!

I went down in a Blaze Of Glory (run out with at least 20+ People shooting at me) several time during the weekend. But i had one instance were the building i was in was blown up. So the ref came into the building and told all of us we all were dead. So i told the ref to please tell every one outside the building we were out because we were still taking fire and he did. I then picked up all my pods and preceded out the building. I looked out and there were at least 40 people there. i held my head down and strapped my last pod in an was reaching in my pocket to grab my barrel sleeve and put it on my gun when i herd pop.. then pop again and again in my pack. I stopped and turned around to see if it was a buddy of my on the opposing team just being funny. And then took 2 more in the shoulder and one in my hand an preceded at me with gun up. I was like WTF??? I wasn't doing a dead mans walk or didn't even have my finger near the trigger... I looked at the ref and said what is up with that???? and he just looked at me... I was like REF!!!! the Player then told me he was shooting at the helo... I was like what??? I am not a helicopter... He then preceded to tell me he was using me as a bunker... Then i got up set... I then preceded to Take matter into my on hands... I turn back around looked at his ID and Got his ID number! if the ref isn't going to do anything about it I will try my best... Come to find out he was a SC Roadkill Player... And I got his name and everything... I had great respect for the player until that instance in overshooting... That to me seemed like overshooting not just getting mowed down in a blaze of glory or just having a bunch of people shooting at you at once.

I know who the player was....

He had a helicopter strapped on his back and hunting the enemy helo all day....as was the enemy helo hunting him.

I was infact, standing just next to you when that happened. I heard 3 cocks and 3 shots from a pump gun, maybe 4. The roadkill player was being smart by using you to cover his approach, those two were having at eachother all day long.....you would be considered a bunker, if the enemy helo had engaged, but he didn't. 3 shots and he was out.

I doubt that the roadkill player was using you as a bunker, nor did he plan to trap you in a cross fire; he knew he had a streight shot, and those pumps are mighty accurate though sometimes we miss.

I can guarantee you, having seen it from a good stand point that there was no malicious play intended.

forgive and forget.

it was me that missed -- had a new horizontal stick feed - (trying my hand at pseudo stock class) -I was on recon flying the blue helicopter (strapped to my back) -- I got in a hurry and chopped my 2nd shot and curved a few... I had my red dot on the yellow helicopter I'de been hunting across the whole field. In many ways he was using the eliminated players and refs as cover - althought I dont think that was intentional. I cant believe I missed my first shot. Sorry about any colladeral damage. ps: but I did knock out the yellow helicopter -- 4 maybe 5 shots total. And I did yell "MOVE" as loud as I could to encourage the dead players and refs to get out the way.

Ill bet I took 200 hits flying that helicopter from yellow folks on the ground between 9am and 12:30pm on Sunday -- maybe 50 hits or so from my allies -- I went through three jerseys just trying to not look hit. Not easy with that proball goo'ey mess. Flying around behind enemy lines is fun - but not with out hazards...but a hell of a lot of fun!!

On my first mission on Saturday I took 8 breaks at 15 feet in the back -- from friendly fire.

three lessons I should learn:
1) be careful when pushing beyound your own lines -- friendly fire hurts worst.

2) dont fly the helicopter if you are a wus and get upset about an incidental shot or two (hundred).

3) you aint ripp'in no one with a horizontal stick feed --- lol -- thats funny..

One time I was "bonus balled" due to my own fault (wasn't quick with the barrel sock), the ref got on the person that did shoot me on the way out, but, I told the ref it was my fault that I walked into the balls without a condom on the barrel. It was all fair enough. Basic rule is, if your in a fight and get taken out, keep your butt down until it dies down and scream like a little girl "DON'T SHOOT ME!" (sic/humor) and run off the field.
Bonus balls happen especially if you walk into a hail of them!
