Missions - What does your team do?
I have been asked by APG to write several articles on how missions should be run.
I am asking those teams that played at the last Bear Claw game how they run a mission, what they do to plan how to do the mission once they get the mission card, do you run a night mission the same as you do a day mission, what do you do differently for a night mission? Your help would be appreicated and if your remarks are used in the article, I will quote you in the article. Please include your name, call sign, and team name when responding to these questions. Your help would be appreciated. |

AssaSIN Nation runs missions all the time. WE are a mission team. At BC we were in on a lot of missions. I know we take the card finnd the target on teh map set up a best plan of action to reach the area, & go. We run it with a medic, a demo & a eng. most times. We have a JCS Law with us when we go out. We are loaded for bear most of the time. We take all of the team as we go out.If we are not together at the start we are on the radio getting the troops together to meet up at a set point.
Night missions we go lean & mean. Less people that we do for days. WE take as few as we think we will need. NO laws, No need for a medic, BUT demo is a greatone to have with you at all times. Hope this helps Chris "CamoJester" Greer Last edited by CamoJester; 05-12-2008 at 06:53 AM. |

If you know of someone that has an old mission card from a MPP game, please have them either send a scan or a photo of it so I can use it. Thanks again. |

oh boy! let me go ahead and jump right on in here.
southern discomfort is a mission team. alot of teams find mission running boring and ignore this crucial aspect of the game. most teams are content to just go and raise hell on the field. but in reality, missions are how the game is won. being a successful mission team can gain alot of favor with the asigned factions general, resulting in recognition and m.v.t. awards for you and your team. we all know potential sponsors are more likely to negotiate with a team who has awards to show for thier ability on the field. so in summary, missions are the key to success for a faction as a whole as well as a team trying to make it in the scenario world. alot of planning goes into running a mission team, even before we arrive at the field for a game. we will assess the game structure by what producer and field are hosting the game. different producers have different mission structures and different fields allow for a diverse array of objectives. after we have assessed what type of scenario we will be attending, we then prepare our team logistics. we study the game map and topography of the field, often pulling up sat-hybrid imagery on the net. next, we will print off enlarged and laminated copies of the game map for all of our players and have a team meeting to discuss key locations on that map. we are then ready to go to the game. as team captain, i will recieve a mission card straight from the faction general. the first thing i do is assess whether it is a prop mission or an objective mission. the two mission classes are as different as night and day. if it is a prop mission, i know that i will have to navigate my team to a certain location on the map to retrieve a physical item or "prop". these missions are relatively simple in nature and involve battling it out for a piece of the field where a required item is located. that item is secured and then returned to the general at the cp, where it is turned in for points. these missions can however be difficult in nature. i.e. downed pilot missions can be lenghthy and difficult due to the fact that several steps are involved and the rules are strict. some prop missions i have seen have even went as far as recovering a prop dummy who had a tape recorder with even more instructions. alot of mission teams underestimate prop missions. they are not as glamorous as an objective mission, yet they are worth points. the bastogne game was close at the end and was won by the "prop points" turned in by our factions general. now, if its an objective mission, i know that we will be walking into an all out slugfest and i make sure i have all of my team rallied up and loaded with paint. these missions will usually go out to the two opposing factions at the same time. they will then meet at the designated location and just slug it out for dominance. an objective mission will most often times require a faction to secure and hold a location for a designated amount of time. this time limit is monitored by a ref who will recieve the mission card and mark the mission a success if it is completed. here i will ask for an assist from an armored unit or a anti armor unit or both if i can get them. i will march my team, in front of the armor or anti armor, right to the missions doorstep. i will then let the armor clear the way or scatter the opfor players in transit to the mission location. now its time to grab a ref, which is usually on hand at the right time per orders of the game producer .when i have cleared out any opfor located within the perimeter, we will then enter the objective area. i will hand the mission card to the ref and make sure we are on the same page. while we wait for the time period to expire for completion, we are usually battling it out with teams from the opposing faction who are trying to disrupt our success. and thats how its done. an example of a prop mission from mpp's iwo jima last oct @ bearclaw paintball: ![]()

Thanks Havok for the information and the card. I am just starting to write these articles. Do not know when these stories will appear. By the time I send them in, it could be 4 months or more.
I will try and let you know when I find out. |

oh yeah. communication is key. if i feel i am about to loose control of the mission, i will swallow my pride and radio the general. that way he can either send help or sacrifice the mission for a greater task.
