Here is another issue...

Many people are simple minded. They look at the surface of something, take the first impression, mistaken or not, and make a decision.

The tenth anniversary of our Texas Revolution event I wanted to do something really cool for the players, so we announced that admission, including your first case of paint, would be $100 (our prices for a decade had been $50 admission and $65 for paint, for a total of $115), and that extra paint would be just $45 a case!

I thought this was a great promotion, and a nice “thank you” to the players.

Instead many just freaked out that admission was $100! “Why is this game so much more? What will you be adding that admission should be that much?!” I explained and explained. I rewrote the promo a few times. I explained that they could show up and shoot a case and pay $15 less than normal, or show up and shoot TWO cases for $65 less…which is like getting a case for FREE! Many never got it. I thought folks would appreciate the deep discounts and we would have MORE players. In the end it actually COST me attendance.

The same thing happened the first year of Shatnerball. Admission was $80, but included a custom, commemorative (high-quality) jersey. All we heard for the first month was “OMG!!!! Why is this game $75 and a regular scenario is $50! They are trying to rip us off!"

MSRP for a plain, off-the-rack JT jersey is forty bucks. $50 + $40 = $90

Again…folks still screamed bloody murder because entry into “scenario A” was $45, entry into “scenario B” was $50, and entry into Shatnerball was $75! OMFG!!!!

I can’t afford a $5k compressor for my field yet, so I have to outsource for fills. Tank charges me per head, and we collect the money and pay him. Therefore I can’t just include it for the same price. However, if you look at the history above, if I just tack it on and say that early bird admission is now $60 instead of $45, and walk-on is $75 instead of $60…folks will freak out and I will lose half my customers.

SO, as long as players are only capable of looking at the price, and not what they GET for the money….you will probably be relegated to paying for everything separately.

i understand what you mean, i personally use several different setups during the weekend games. all are mine and if i pay for event air, and am not sharing with others i expect to be able to fill which ever of my tanks i am taking out with me.

you are right about the fact that somemore than will admit it) stop reading after they see a price they dont like, that is ashamed, hey should se what the price includes before making a decision on going or not.

as for the the the quote a bit back about the event not covering all repairs on the gear that went down, this is something that needs to be looked at by the air provider as cost of doing business. they cannot expect that if their equipment fails at one event that the players must pay for it that game. they make money off of events on a consistant basis if they are servicing many scenarios, not just one. and this is a part of that air charge that they should be holding back for just this type of emergency. which i am sure that they do.

Great Idea soco except it would take 10 minutes to fill a scuba that way n you would lose bank air from player fills.

I currently have a small Bauer, but I'm trying to sell it and get a large unit that will handle 400 players.

I have always charged one all-inclusive registration price that includes air whether CO2 or HPA. I contract the air service out and it costs me $10 per player no matter how much they use. Works out well for me. At $95 including air and a case of Marbalizers and a player BBQ on Friday evening, you can't go wrong!

Thats great Smakman wish more producer did that...

The vast majority of scenario players today don't realize how good you got it. When I started playing scenario ball we called them night games or 24 hr games. Compressed air was unherd of. Cases of paint were $125.00 per 2500 rounds. If the field had Co2 it was 5.00 a fill for a 20oz tank. Paintball gunz were not that efficent. There were no simi auto, only pump or smg 60 full auto which my team used excusively. A case of RPScherer 62 cal was $250.00 per 2500 rounds. Today everythings being handeled for you, all you have to do is show up, pay your money, and stand in line.
All I hear is complain, complain, complain... paint sucks, ref sucks, game sucks...I'v dreamed about this game since I was a little boy watching the army convoy going by my house in 62 on there way to defend my butt during the Cuban Missel Crisis.
Here is a little fact, if a producer wants to play at Blanding, the National Guard charges $10,000 just to use the place, then its $12.00 a head that goes to the Nationa Guard as well. Whats a producer to do, then the producer has to order enough paint for everyone. If they fail to then everyone complains again. Producers have to have enough patches, player packs, with ID's, player cards, event cards, Raidos, peopel to use the raidos like game directors, head ref's, game ref's. Someone had to write and script the game, come up with the scenario, idea's. Make sure there's enough food, facilities, ect. Liability insurance... Way more than you think goes into making a scenario game come off...
