Thoughts on Night Vision for Scenario games

Is it really worth having night vision on the field? I've used and own a Gen3 scope and to be quite honest I felt it was a waste of time. Personally, I prefer to just let my eye's adjust and go from there. I found myself adjusting my night vision all the time and after trying to see through my goggles (holding them away from your face) it was a real pain..

Your thoughts?

Well A scope is not worth a crap unless your doing Simper duties. Or some slow pace recon. If your on a mission and need to have Night eyes at all times you need a set that can be mounted over your mask. If you go to OPSGEAR.COM and go to the head gear sec. They sell the Delta Force style helmets and they make a NVG mount that goes on them and the NVG's can go right over your mask.

Now of course you dont need NVG's all them time at night. Just under certain sercomstance. Like a village raid. or on a point man when your leading a team though the woods.

Just my thoughts. Hope they help and I will see all you guys soon. Well once it cools down anyways LOL

I dont think you have to have them. I think there fun to play with. I would not spend the money for them. I would want the head set & gen2 min.

Just my 2cents

speaking as a player..

I once had a pretty cool gen 2 monocular that mounted to the site rail on my sniper II and it had cross hairs. I actually machined a weaver plate to site it in the hardway as there was no internal way to adjust the cross hairs.

And as a toy, it was really cool for the first 2 or 3 times I used it to foward recon a mission objective, and Ive found myself wanting it back again and again.

But something like this needs to be a team asset, that maybe a team that REALLY likes to play at night would use. As a personal expense, I dont think I would cough up that kind of coin for something I cant use "any given saturday".

speaking as a producer..
Anything that really gets the players into the story line and emmersed into their roles in the scenario is good, just so long as it doesnt make too many other players mad. Nightvision is a pretty safe "allowable" that adds spice to the game, but doesnt anger too many players. That said, having too much or too much on once side can seriously sway the night fight and leave the otherside bellyaching. (Marshall Law used to rule the night down at waynes world in the late 90's)

So to manage this risk,

MPP says No NVG
TriggerTyme says : Its fine until 10PM then none
Wayne's World I think says : Its fine until 10PM then none

Tanks, Law Rockets, Spies and "Super Powers Cards" fall into a similar argument of : "when do these spice items risk the general fun factor; and how to manage that risk" Compared to these risks, NVGs are a low risk threat to the general fun - in my opinion.

I would recommend the monocular or scope approach with a decent eye-relief since the goggle variety can interfere with personal safety to the wearer. I would also suggest a team KNOW that it loves to play at night before coughing up this kind of coin for something they wont use. Also know in advance what the area producers allow - cause it will make you very mad indeed to buy such a toy, and have to drive 20 hours to use it. And then I would spread the cost across the whole team, and let all "co-owners" play with the toy.

ps: Ill bet some of those Tanks costs over $10K - NVGs are cheap in comparison. The difference between a man and a boy is the price of his toys

im not a huge fan of night vision. But im also not a big fan of setting rules just for the sake of rules. SO i am very happy with triggertymes before 10 pm rule.

i really don't think the night vision guys will like Castro... every 2 steps they go blind. lol

10,000,000 candel power is always more fun.
