Air Upgrade - CP reg or LPA tank

I have a ION with a stock reg and a Crossfire 68/4500 HPA. My goal is to get more consistant shots and everything else is upgraded so I was thinking about either getting a CP reg for the gun or having the reg on the tank switched from HPA to LPA. Which do you think would give better consistancy? Both upgrades are the same cost.

The inline reg (CP or whatever one you choose) will be the better bet.

Which Bolt do you have? Consistency comes in this order.

1. valve Type
2. Paint/Bore Match
3. Qev *depending on valve Type
4. Bolt
5. Regulator
6. Tank regulator

There is no difference in consistency between an HPA and an LPA. the only difference is the output type, people will mention recharge rates blah blah blah. Now think you Highly Upped ion is running what? 125 psi? This is where a high flow Regulator comes in handy, the faster it gets to 125 PSI the better. AKA 2 Litre if you can.

Why Tank recharge rates dont matter. Your PSI drop across the valve per shot is only going to be in the neighborhood of 50-60 psi. If you are using a LPA reg then recharge may matter if you have a high PSI gun like 250-300 like my fusion. How ever if you have an ion unless you some how get it to shoot 35+ balls per second OR you are using a 3000 round hopper and just draining it you are not going to notice drop off.

So the best bet to answer your question is If you have the Hollow Point bolt from Deadly wind already, a QEV a Barrel kit you can match paint. Then get an AKA 2-Liter

Yep the CP would work good. Vader uses one on his Ion & I have 3 on marker of mine.

I have a TechT L6 bolt. The reason I thought a LPA take would be good is that the marker is running around 160psi and currently my ~900psi HPA tank has to be brought down to ~160psi by the guns reg which is a difference of ~740psi. If I went LPA the regulator would have much less "work" to do so there should be less variance.

If you want a new reg, get an AKA 2-liter or a Sidewinder. maybe not as pretty as the CP reg but they have a faster recharge rate and less shoot down. much better quality products.

I have the Ion Pro, with SP 360 QEV, L-7 bolt, with a freak system, almost the same as you, I have a High Pressure valve 91ci 4500psi HPA tank. Sometimes I think it's too big untill I don't have to refill it after shooting a case of paint. I usually get over 4000 rounds with one fill. Smart Parts low pressure reducer is the best for the Ion, its made for it. IMO you don't have to change any hardware but maybe get a bigger tank.
One question before I close Have you adjusted the dwell setting since you installed the QEV and L-6 bolt? If you haven't this is your problem. The stock factory setting is about 52, with the QEV it should be about 12 and with the L-6 bolt it should be around 8.
Adjusting the dwell will get you more consistant shots, and a lower operating pressure...
